|
|
It is my pet hate here in Korea. The one thing that drives me crazy.
Why are Koreans so bad with handling a simple everyday item such as an umbrella?
They put their heads down and WALK. They don't look where they are going or who they are going to walk into.
As their umbrella hits you, even if you have been trying to avaoid it, all the water on the surface flies off and hits you, even more so as the ends of the 'arms' prod your eyes out.
I find myself avoiding so many people as I walk down the street when it is raining and lifting my umbrella up that I may as well not bother having an umbrella in the first place.
And then they stand all across the entrance of the subway, making it impossible to get in or out.
My peeve for the day. |

yah.. its true - I don't use an umbrella - Because i know at the end of the day - I am going home to a nice hot shower and the clothes will be put through the laundry......
however as for Koreans and their umbrella ettiquette - be tough! when you see those Moran Koreans walking into you with their umbrellas as weapons - ""accidentally"" hit them/knock them/try to break them... if the idiot holding them can't be courteous enough to take too paces around you then do whatever you have to - to show them some ettiquette
sometimes - in Korea - I think the "umbrella" is more of a "fashion item" to be proudly held and pranced around than actually what it is designed for...... |

I prefer the rain myself. Today I was walking in a mere drizzle with the umbrella under my arm and every Korean I saw was holding theirs up like it was a downpour, or scurrying for cover.

That's why I carry an umbrella: personal protection. |

Maybe they just all got Magic Straights and don't want to ruin their hair?
I know what you mean, I jsut got my hair done (man I feel like a friggin princess saying that ) and can not get my hair wet at all until Monday night. So last night even though it was jst misting and the Before Katy would be tromping down the street without a care, and probably enjoying the mist, After Katy has to be a priss till Monday night and make sure she has her umbrella with her at all times. |

Hey Kate. My hair is long enough now that I have been wearing a pony tail. Did I do that before you left? If you have never seen it, all I can say is, man I am soooooooo HOT

Yes, I do the exact same thing. It only took a couple of narrow misses for me to start this. |

It seems like 3/4 of the Korean population is at the "perfect" height that allows the umbrella spikes to be at my eye level. Know what I mean? If I were 4 inches taller or shorter, no problemo. As is, I'm always nervous when it's a rainy day and I have to go out.
That said, why don't Korean umbrellas have the little plastic bumper things that are just a wee bit safer than the uncovered metal wires poking out?

It feels like sword fighting with umbrellas. I hit other people's umbrellas with my own. It's that, or give them an inch. I knw not to give anyone an inch in this country. |
