I'm also doing level 5 at the moment and have to do a short interview. I've been told the same thing. I think it's more for feedback rather than a pass/fail type thing. The naturalization exam requires a separate interview.

Wondering, does anyone know the required score to pass the 중간평가 at the end of level 4 of KIIP?

I think I saw thatkidpercy say we can go to level 5 even if we don't pass. Wonder if that is still the case.

And then, what score is required for the korean language points towards the points visa?

Thanks for any info!

If you pass level 4 you get 15 points in the language portion. I believe the passing grade is 60... but don't quote me on that. At the most it's 70; I had a 73~ and passed.

I know for certain level 5 is 60 so I assume they are the same.

I'm pretty sure you can still advance, but I believe you have to retake the level 4 test if you want to get the language points.

Posting information for those looking to get the F2-7 visa (which I guess is most of the people doing this course). New guidelines have been released which will take effect from the 1st of May, and there are quite a few changes to the points allocation. The official info is at http://www.hikorea.go.kr/pt/index.html (Korean only)

Hope it doesn't have too bad an effect on your points total... personally I'll now be a point shy of the golden 80 Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Thanks for the heads up. Nice how they put the new system in effect right before the Social Integration Program test results come out. You must be really upset right now...

To put it lightly, yes!! I don't know if I'll be able to, but I'm hoping I might be able to get an extra point in the income category as I've been getting housing allowance for the last 6 months, which would put me over 30mil a year. I've not earned over 30 in the last 12 months though, which is how I think they work it out.

Otherwise I'll be trying to find out the minimum requirements for the language course point. Of course, things might change again before I'm able to complete said course Mad Mad Rolling Eyes

Is this on hikorea?

I got really excited that they divided TOPIK by individual level until I realized now I have one less point even with TOPIK 4...

edit: This is incredibly annoying... including income/tax, I *might* have between 77 and 79 now. Beforehand, I was a guaranteed 79. They also upped the volunteer requirements. The minimum is now 1-2 years. If my income points are at the maximum I think I may have, then I still have to get TOPIK 5... At this point I'm almost thinking of throwing in the towel... Just when I thought I was almost home free.

The English version is my translation, but the original document is on the HiKorea website. I pasted the link a few posts up. How many points do you have?

EDIT.
Sorry, I just realised the link I posted doesn't go to the right page. For some reason I can't paste the link, but if you go to the Korean language version of the site and then into 알림마당 it's at the top (no 282).

I think a lot of people will be in the same boat. I guess the powers that be thought the visa was too easy to get before? Really sucks for people like us who've invested a significant amount of time in this program.

I'm going to get my tax documents this week and head over to immigration to see exactly where I stand.

They switch the requirements so often that the employees don't really know either.

On top of everything, I think I may have gotten a fine this year when my school changed owners (the director forgot to notify immi--I had no idea). Not sure if I'll get minus points for that and if I do, I have no idea if I can clear it.

I wrote 고급 yesterday, but I really don't think I passed. I'm pretty sure I can get a level 5 this summer, but even then I may be short depending on how they calculate the points.

It's just so frustrating. I haven't been home in nearly 2 years because you can't have a gap in your visa. Under the old point system I was pretty much guaranteed and had plans to go home this summer... This is really disappointing.

edit: Has anyone gone into immigration (Omokgyo specifically) to discuss the visa specifically? If so, how are they in regards to knowledge of the process and what not? How about 1345?

From my understanding, they don't actually decide whether your visa is approved or not, but I would assume they should still know the process.

Also, for tax documents, are they available at your local 구청 or is there an NTS building? I'm located in Itaewon if it matters...

One important question I have is what TOPIK/Korean language points are awarded after completing KIIP..

Is it TOPIK level 3 (14) or TOPIK level 4 (16)

It's the equivalent level. So 3단계 is the same as TOPIK 3 and 4단계 is the same as TOPIK 4 in terms of points.

So just to run an average FoB who decides to stay after a couple years
age: 25 - 23 points
Education: Bachelors, science - 28
Income: Hagwon/Public school - 2
Taxes: (is this before or after refund?) 2-3 million - 2
Before language total: 55 points
You'll need KIIP4 and KIIP to hit 81 on the nose

if you complete KIIP and study up and take TOPIK6 can you get 30 points?
Obviously they're putting a much greater emphasis on language.
Even if you were 30 and held 2 doctorates (+11), volunteered for 3 years (+5), you'd need a very impressive income to avoid taking any Korean language points at all.

Furtakk, are these points just awarded based on the placement test? So if someone placed into level 3 do you figure they get the level 3 points right away? Or do they have to complete the level 3 course hours?

The only skill test is at the end of level 4, other than the placement test. So curious about that..
