edit: Oh and anyone who has even just slightly regularly frequented Itaewon has probably bumped into Steve Revere before. |
I met Steve a few years back.
I had just spent the past month watching "Let's Speak Korean" everyday in order to improve my Korean.
I was starstruck |

I'd be starstruck to see Revere, too. Hang out in Itaewon a good amount but have never run into him. As Lisa Kelley, wowza. She's caused me to spill more seed than Michael J. Fox at a birdfeeder.
I'd be curious if anyone has ever met the Marmot (aka Robert Koehler). Big guy, always wears a hanbok... |

I've known ZenKimchi for a long time through someone. It took me a while to realize it was the same guy, actually. We don't roll or anything, but if we bumped into each other I'd think our conversation would not mainly be about his blog.
In a similar vein, I have met two of the 3 Wise Monkeys guys, the gonzo writer guy and the webmaster. Also have met in person admins of a few other Korean expat sites. I'm not sure that counts as being famous, but yeah.

I can't imagine that I'd want to admit to any of that. |

Steve is a good guy, I've done business with him in the past. Though other parties soured the situation. Anyways, I had no idea people considered him "famous". |

Many learned their first Korean words from Lets Speak Korean. |

I met David Tz back in the day. I wouldn't say he one of the real big-names in blogging, but he has a sizable online presence. He used to run a bar out in Bucheon a few years ago. Real hard drinker and went through a nasty divorce, and then got arrested last year. Spent 8 months in a Korean slammer.
His blog is one of the most depressing things I've ever read. I hope he gets his life together:

Got my attention, it's an interesting read. |

I've never understood why people think Lisa Kelley is hot.
She's OK I suppose, but nothing special. |

I saw Michael Hurt creepin' around Itaewon once, taking pictures of girls for his "street photography" blog.
Of course, he beelined toward the most scantily-clad broads around. Pretty good 'hobby' if you can pull it off, but wonder how many times he's been slapped. |

I've met Stephen Revere too. A couple of weeks ago I met Andrei Lankov
Is Roboseyo's blog big enough for the author to qualify for this thread? If he is, I know him. |

Has Korea produced any expats that have gone on to achieve notoriety later in life? |
Does Chuck Norris count?
Story goes he took an asskicking from locals for hitting on a girl in a Songtan bar which inspired him to take up Tae Kwon Do, lol.
|
Chuck Norris getting an asskicking? Impossible!
But, yes, he started practicing Tang Soo Do (one of the precursors of Tae Kwon Do) in Osan.

I met Dave Sperling as well. He hired me to help him with this website.
I like Dave, he's a nice guy. And it's amazing to me that the site is still here, barely changed, and still generating great revenue. |

Now we know why it's barely changed
I took Smokey scuba diving.

I also took the UN commander scuba diving which resulted in a "private" tour of Panmunjom/JSA. That was pretty awesome. My wife also got to go which was nice because Koreans weren't allowed to go there at the time. |
