Hi there,
I am getting my documents ready to send off to the recruiter and was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to get your documents apostilled. If you could send me help at all that would be great. Also does anyone know how long it really takes for the FBI background check to come through?
Thanks much! |

As a former Seattleite, let me give you the run-down. Basically, you have to do everything through Department of State. Korean Immigration won't accept state level apostille. If you have already sent your CRC request to the FBI, and they have received it, you can contact your congressional rep's office (if you're Capital Hill, it's Jay Inslee - if you're other areas you can find who it is online) to ask them if they can help you expedite the process. Be polite and business-like in your request, and know that it doesn't always work - it depends on the contacts your congress rep's office has. But, if they can help you it can significantly reduce the wait time (I just had a friend do this process and Inslee's office was able to do it very quickly). After you get your CRC back, you can send it to one of several apostille services, which you can find through a google search. They will take your apostille request and walk it into State Dept, which speeds up the process. Just make sure you have all the necessary paperwork done and correct payments, to avoid delays. That's the basic info - Good luck! |

Korean Immigration accepted my state level apostilles in September or October. Have they changed policies again? |

I'm not aware that they took any state apostilles, but that's not saying it might not work for some. You may have gotten lucky with immigration, or there are some exceptions state-by-state. I'm certain that I wasn't able to use Washington state apostille rather than federal, though, when I came over from Seattle. Like everything in this game, check the direct sources for confirmation before relying on forums (my own advice included). |

I think State Level apostille is needed for university degree. So you have to get an apostille from the State Department of state your university is based. The criminal record check has to be federal. I think some states used to apostille CRCs. To make life easier get the CRC done by the Federal State Department. For even more ease consider using a apostille service. Days versus weeks. Bit more money but less grief.

Yeah, diploma can be done at state level, CRC should be federal. Thanks for the clarification! |
