Well, just say no. Don't let anything that they do bother you, and just stick to your plan. You might think you're being offensive, but as long as you don't throw any tantrums at them about not being willing to work for free, you'll get through unscathed.

I have seen so many problems with school with bad financial situations, and guess who gets the blame?

Just follow Nancy Regan's old advice "Just Say No!"

Check out the links on www.efl-law.com

There are some groups in Seoul that can help you.

Good luck.

They agreed to let us stay in the apartment for a while

Get out of their apartment. That would be KEY.

The point is, every day that we've been in Seoul, we've been getting phone calls.

Get out of that apartment. Go get a yogwan. If you need a phone, buy a cellphone in Itaewon - you can buy a phone with phone cards for as low as 30,000 won.

My question is, is there any way possible to just cut job ties here without leaving the country?

No, its not possible. After you quit your job, you must leave the country. Go do this and come back on a tourist visa. A ferry to Japan and back is not that expensive.

I have to go home to get my stuff and I live right by the school, so there is no way to go unnoticed-

Bring a friend or two or three.

I also have to stay a few days due to money problems....

Whats the story here? Missing a key component it seems.

Is there anyway to politely "just say no" to a dying hogwan??

Sure. Just get your stuff from the apartment and stop answering that particular phone.

As a self - proclaimed expert on immigration law in Seoul, you do not have to leave the country. You mentioned that you have turned in your ARC. That's all you need to do, and you are automatically reverted to a tourist visa. In the meantime, I agree that you should GET OUT! You are in a potentially volatile situation that usually only gets worse. Don't answer your phone...get a new one, or find a friend who can help you.

One last option is to report to immigration that this particular school is trying to coerce you into working illegally. Immigration just might look into that. Just might.

Good luck

(I think another poster on here mentioned getting death threats after he left his hogwan-not that it would go that far in this situation, but I was not at all suprised when I read that post.) Is it possible for these people to just let go? I have to go home to get my stuff and I live right by the school, so there is no way to go unnoticed-I also have to stay a few days due to money problems....Is there anyway to politely "just say no" to a dying hogwan??

so what happened?

I heard she went from Korea to Taiwan back to Korea and then over to Japan....

Chi-Chi - if you're out there, where are you working now?
