Here's my plan - I'm trying to find out if it's possible.

Going to Korea to find a job end of May. I can have my documents apostilled in the USA while I'm in Korea. They get sent to me in Korea.

Do I go to Japan to get E-2? Or do I have to go back to the USA.

Basically, I want to be there in person to get a job and interview, not in the USA waiting for a contract.

I worked in Korea from 2005 - 2009.

Thanks ahead for info.

IF you don't mind eating the cost of your flight from the States to Korea then head on over (your employer isn't going to pay for your flight and a visa run. It isn't 2006.

Yes, you would get your E2 in Japan or Guam (where ever you can get a cheap flight to).

In the past, I got my E-2 at a Korean consulate in the USA, but this time I flew to Korea from China with docs in hand and did an interview and got a job the next day. My boss arranged flights/hotel in Fukuoka, Japan for the E-2 visa run.

You don't have to go back to the States for your visa. You can get it at any Korean embassy or consulate.

If you get the visa in Fukuoka or Osaka, it's a 2 day trip. Drop off the documents on the first day. Pick them up on the second day. If you get it in Tokyo, it's a 3 day trip. I don't know how long it takes in Guam but I think that Japan is the cheapest option. In any case, make sure you have all the forms filled out and you have some photos ready before you arrive. Otherwise you'll end up at the back of the line or racing for a position with the hordes of other people who didn't fill out the application form in advance.

On a related topic, if you're paying for the visa run (maybe you simply get a travel allowance instead of flight tickets) then go to a few travel agents in Seoul or Busan to look for some package deals. For 300k to 400k you can get flights and a night at a business hotel (very small room). If you're already in Busan, you can save a bit by taking the ferry, but check around because the prices vary a LOT from one company to another.
