Last night, about 9:30, the phone rang. It was a student from last year. He said he would be in the area and asked if we could have supper and drinks together.
I hear from him about once a month, but it was fun to have an evening together with him 'live' as opposed to only on the phone or an e-mail.
I've always found one of the hardest parts of teaching to get used to is getting close to students who move away and losing contact. On the other hand, one of the best parts of teaching is getting a letter or a phone call, months or years later, from someone who was important to you, saying 'hi' or 'I was just thinking about you'.
Most intriguing bit of info: there is a red fruit with white dots that grows on an island near Jeju-do that can be made into homemade wine. Anyone know what the name of the fruit is? |

I got one of those calls a month or so ago. Some guy said his name and spent the rest of the conversation trying to remember who it was. All I know is that he now has a part-time job.
My 'favorite' kind of call is where the caller says, "Hi. This is Kim." Then I start listing all the Kims I can think of. |
