Exactly as I thought you would respond augustine. You are not interested in facts or a response you just post to play your stupid little game of insinuation.
Carry on and good luck with the future. |

LOL another one.
You know what...you and augustine post the same things in the same threads...are you the same person? Do you work together? hmmmmmm very very suspicious...
Oh and no, you can rest easy, I do not know ontheway at all and in fact I have never met anyone from here nor will I likely ever do so. |

No offense taken. You actually post messages where your arguments and positions are supported by some facts. I have no problem debating a topic with you.
Take care man. |

I'm very interested in the facts and a response, Patrick. I'm not playing a "stupid little game of insinuation," I'm simply asking if anyone on here has actually ever met you. You display your experience and time in Korea below your name, and people take it seriously (since you're here to help newbies and all), you were a former moderator on this site, and you've been posting on this website almost daily for years, though you haven't lived here for around six years. I'm not playing a game with you.
You say you come to Korea every year, and I'm not trying to disprove that, I believe your story; I believe you are who you say you are. What I'm curious about, is how you claim to have so many acquaintances in Korea... yet, apparently, no one has ever met you in person. I, very simply, want to know if anyone has met Patrick/Chris in person. It's as simple as that. |

Not that I owe you or anyone here a thing but here goes
1- I have never met anyone from this board. That is a choice as opportunities have occured. I may end up meeting a few people as I find some people here could be interesting. Time will tell.
2- My friends and contacts in Korea are...ok take a seat and a deep breath...NOT FROM THIS BOARD.
They are my real life Korean friends I made while living in Korea for 11 years. Co-workers, friends, and business partners/clients. They are my wife's family. They are also foreign co-workers, clients and just people I became friends with who still reside in Korea.
No one here has or likely will meet me. Why is that even important to you, I have no idea. You want to say or think that my input is untrue or inaccurate, that is your choice and right. I have no problem with that.
I wil continue to help those people who want my help regardless of what you think. I will also post here when I feel like it. Sometimes to correct blatantly false information, sometimes for fun.
You have any more questions Sheriff or am I free to go now? |

You were never imprisoned, but if you were in my jail you would have received the death penalty immediately. I wasn't directing a question towards you. I directed a question at other people. You claim and seem to have an enormous amount of influence, but I'm always surprised that no one has ever met you after all of these years. I leave it open. |

How many people here have actually met each other?
Some have to be sure, I would think most have not. I do not see the relevance of this either.
I never claim I have an enormous amunt of influence. I have no idea why you would say that. Influence over whom? In what area?
Seriously, I wonder what you are trying to get at. |

Really, augustine? Because someone disagrees with you and refuses to dissolve into sputtering hatred when faced with personal attacks he'd get the death penalty?
You are literally the epitome of stupid and the embodiment of the dark, idiotic side of this board. Just because someone does not currently reside in Korea does not mean he/she has no valid advice or wisdom to contribute.
I, for one, am always thankful to read Patrick's relatively balanced reviews, especially compared with all the negative, disparaging drivel some people on this board put out there. |

I've met Patrick (on this board) and I don't agree with everything he has to say and I was annoyed when he questioned my sanity one time when I was just ranting here, something I don't do in front of my family. But I have no problem with him posting here. I almost suspect he wants to come back to Korea but his wife keeps him in Canada, I could be wrong but if I'm right I empathise as I have the same problem but in the opposite way.
The poster I have problems with is the one that claims to be an E2 on an Independent Contract. After 8 years here I could question whether he likes his boss doing him from behind, especially as he would be 2 years from qualifying for a Korean part pension if he really was here and working as a hagwon IC. But maybe I'm way out of line. I apologise. |

I'll make this brief, since you're little more than a chump who is presently scouting for a pathetic hagwon job and has probably never been to Korea. I'm as dark and idiotic as Patrick is "relatively balanced" when it comes to Korea. Maybe you'll understand that once you arrive, but until then, I'd keep quiet on these matters, son.

Don't take this for more than it is, I'm not calling you a liar and I'm not necessarily doubting anything you say. But 15 years of continuous influence alongside being a former moderator, and you're saying that no one who has been on this board has ever met you? You're probably the second biggest personality on here (steelrails has to win that bout) and random people like me know your real first name. Listen, I'm not trying to create a conspiracy, I just think that's a little odd. 15 years of experience, Chris, and no one knows who you are, no one here has ever met you? |

Let me clarify that then. In the past I did share some information with other people here (email and so on) but that backfired on me big time. I eneded up being the target of online threats and low brow harrassement. I did learn not to open up too much to people here after this. I had messages sent that insluted me (which is fine, can handle it) but also my wife and kids. It was contained to this and that was good considering how badly such things can turn out. Still, I see no need or benefit in meeting anyone from here. I do not feel this is necessary to help people either.
Also, I was a moderator but that ended in 2008 and I never looked back. I have no "influence" over how this board in run, I just have opinions and I voice them.
I seriously do not see what meeting anyone here would have or would accomplish or how it is even relevant.
People here who pay attention know what I do (professionally) in general terms and it will never go further than this. They know the basics of my personal life (marriage, have kids...) and that too will stay on that level. The rest is frankly no one's business unless I chose to share it. The same holds true for any poster here.
I have never met ttom, but I trust and value his input greatly. Same deal with many other posters here. I do not need to meet them for this to occur. |

You have apparently misread my posts or confused me with someone else. I have always made it clear that while working under an IC contract is perfectly legal for E2 visa teachers, it is a bad idea for all but a few of them. Most hogwans hire their teachers as employees and enroll them properly in both the National Pension and National Health Ins. This is the route I recommend for nearly everyone.
No one has ever asked if I am or have ever worked as an IC in Korea and I have never said that I work or have worked as an IC. I have made it clear that I have national pension and national health insurance provided by my employer and have had at every job I've worked in Korea - so, this should have made it clear that I've never worked as an IC. Since I can negotiate a high compensation level with a single employer, being an IC is just a paperwork hassel that I don't need. As I've always said: It's legal, but it's a bad idea for nearly every E2 teacher.
I don't know anyone working as an E2 whose employers do not provide National Pension and Health Ins as required for their employees. I do, however, know a small number of teachers who have chosen to use the IC option. From my observation, two of them have made good use of this status, working multiple jobs, legally, working long hours and making high incomes to support their families in Korea. Individuals such as these deserve the option to work as ICs. The rest should work as employees. As long as the contract is clear and the school and teacher follow the contract, the choice should be available.
Yes, I've been in Korea a long time ... and I was here long before joining or even hearing about Dave's ESL. I checked on my pension balance last year, and it is quite large, so I'm thinking of leaving Korea for a long vacation, withdrawing the money, and investing it in a property somewhere before the next inflationary R/E bubble takes off. It would be a true waste to leave it there with essentially no return, a small monthly payout at retirement age, and zero equity at death. Better to buy an asset that will grow in value, provide income and can be passed on. |
