I went to Golden Dew for rings. It's a chain but there is a branch in Shinsegae that I went to, on a friend's recommendation. But I just got two simple gold bands instead of some swanky diamond, since they were more our style. I do not recall what all they had available there, perhaps they have diamond rings as well. |

If you buy at Tiffany's in Korea, you'll pay pretty close to the same price you would at any Tiffany's. |
Tiffany's in Korea is marked up 30-50%. |

Thank you all for your answers, but I think I still need an advice where to buy the ring, not about the budget. The budget has already been planned, and maybe I will just slightly decrease it.
First, I am not able to ship it from the West, as my home is not there.
Second - could you please give me a real advice how not to be fooled/ripped off at jewellery store in Korea or HK? Anyone knows decent ones on "Golden mile" ?

I got my engagement ring ( at Jongno) for just over 1 mill won and it was always received great praise anywhere my (now) wife went.

Could you tell the name of the store? Can I trust them?

The name is Miral,
http://www.gem2u.com/main.php
It is located near Jongno Sam ga station, exit 15, second floor..
You should be able to navigate the site there.
They are very reputable and at least worth a look.
There are a tonne of other shops there but that is one of the most popular amongst Korean people anyway.. |

I believe Costco diamonds were tested against Tiffany's and there was little to no difference, apart from the price. Go for those. |

Buy the ring at a reputable dealer along the golden mile in HK and you will still save 30-50% over the costs in Korea for a comparable ring.
Yellow gold is harder to find (white gold is the "in fashion" choice right now) but is still available if you ask.
You can pick out your stone, pick out your setting, pick out the ring and they will have it done in a couple of hours for you.
Gold prices are posted on the wall (daily).

I bought my ring off BlueNile.com and spent approx $8000 on mine.
If you can't go through the BlueNile route, I highly second the suggestion to go with Costco.
If you worry about Korean quality rings or getting ripped off... don't settle for any other certification system except for GIA... the ring needs to be GIA certified.
There are lots of shady dealings in Jognro... if you want peace of mind go with Costco or a reputable online seller like "Blue Nile" |
