I'm comfortably hitting 6MB/s on Astraweb's US servers over SSL now. |
I'm on GigaNews... stuck at around 1.5mbps w/ 50 connections. What the heck. Any idea what might be slowing me down?
Right before MegaUpload got shut down, I normally hit speeds of 9-10mbps with that service. |

Probably because you are attempting to shove 50 connections through your link.
There are a number of steps you can take to try to improve your speeds:
1. Begin with 1 connection and measure what speed you are getting. Then slowly increase the number of connections until you reach the point where adding more connections either adds nothing to your speed or reduces it.
2. Try using a different port or server. Certain servers may come under different loads at different times.
3. If you are using SSL, try disabling this to see if it makes any difference in speed.
I should also note that my speeds to Astraweb were with 17 connections only.

Given that this is over HTTP (and not NNTP), it doesn't surprise me that you were achieving different results. I also think their servers may have been closer to Korea (and not in the US, although I'd welcome a correction on this). |

I have been with NewsDemon for almost a year now, but have recently noticed that I only have been downlaoding at about 2MB/s. Up until a month ago, I was usually between 6-8MB/s.
I think I am going to try to change. Any suggestions? Anyone out there still use usenet? I love it! |

I've given up on it. I still think it's much better than torrents, but I can't justify paying for it anymore. I only follow a couple TV series and torrents are just as quick for me these days. I used to be a big movie collector, but I have no time to watch anything these days. |
