Sorry, but I've got to say this... you've gotta' wonder why she asked you, instead of other Koreans? Perhaps if she doesn't pay you back she can just cut you off, while other Koreans it ain't as easy.

He stole my passport and is asking a 2 million won ransom for it back. He randomly picked that number after I said please understand I just had a costly operation.

Don't hand her cash, pay for it keep the receipt.

Great idea but I will be going home to visit during June. Not sure when her surgery is but she has sworn to repay me when she gets her severance on June 5th from Zest.

In this situation, how are you going to hold her passport? She needs it to work, and she needs to work in order to repay the loan, so you're not going to be able to hold onto the passport, right?

I wish that logic was true for actual loan companies and student loan companies.

Even though people intend to pay back loaned money, things can happen. And people always tend to rationalize why they can't pay it back to make themselves look better. People always lookout for themselves first, before others, it's just human nature.

She has no family? And no Korean friends that can float a loan of just a million won? Yikes. What the heck was she doing with her money from her other paychecks? Or does she have an impoverished family so all of her income went to support them?

Either way, give it a pass.
