Quote:
MONTREAL Henry Morgentaler, who campaigned relentlessly for abortion on demand in Canada, was as admired as he was reviled.

Supporters considered him a compassionate humanist who defended the rights of women. Detractors denounced him as a baby killer responsible for the extermination of as many innocents no better than the Nazis whose reign of terror he survived, during Second World War.

A man identified almost wholly with one issue. Essentially, what you thought about abortion was what you thought about him. His court cases almost by themslves determined the legal status of abortion in Canada, eventually resulting in the overturning of the existing law in 1987. That law was never replaced, leaving Canada with no abortion law on the books.

That isn't going to change anytime soon. Even the Conservatives won't touch this issue.
