Hi everyone! I will be heading to Korea in Early August. I was wondering if anyone could give me some information about living there. Places to eat? Nightlife? Shopping? What I can't get in Incheon? What to bring? Basically all the typical questions people usually ask.

Incheon is a small city of only 3 million people located about an hour away from central Seoul.
There is no nightlife. There are no restaurants. You can't buy anything.
There is nothing to see and nothing do to.

Seriously?
If you do your own cooking, bring spices (the ones you are familiar with will be harder to find in your first few months here).
If you have BIG feet, then bring shoes. If your feet are shorter than 280mm then you are good.
If you have a brand preference for toiletries then bring them because the brands here are not the same as home. IF you don't care about brands then no worry. You can get everything here.
Bring a sheet, pillowcase, towel and bar of soap with you. Most apartments don't come equipped with bedding and it will save you looking for some on your first day here.

This is bizarre advice from a usually very helpful poster. Are you drunk ttompatz?
There are a few foreigner bars in incheon, some decent restaurants, lots of shopping (big H&M) and is close enough to Seoul to easily enjoy it on weekends. A late night taxi from hongdae isn't out of the question either. You're also close to some decent (as mainland Korea goes) beaches in the summer.
I'd advise you to join the quite active Incheon English Teachers group on Facebook, some helpful folks on there.
He is right about the shoes, toiletries etc. Thats true anywhere in Korea. |

You mean the first 3 lines?
That is why I asked, "Seriously?"
A really fast google might have been in order and the link from tripadvisor lists some 140 places/things to see, do, shop, eat, etc. in the metro Incheon area.
Chances are big that the OP is not coming from a city that is much larger than 3 million people and it is not like Korea is some undeveloped nation in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Thanks everyone for the replies.
ttompatz- I have done my research, but it is better to hear first hand from people with real experiences. This is why I joined this forum. People are very helpful. As to where I am from. I come from a town of 40,000 people, but I am 20 minutes away from Chicago which has about 2.7 million people.
Dodge7- I don't know exactly where I will be living, but my school is located in Jakjeon-Dong so I assume I will be near the area.

I'm going on my third year in Incheon and I quite like it.
The good areas to live near are Bupyeong and Arts Center/City Hall.
I live near Arts Center and don't really need to go to Seoul that often because everything is near me. Bars, Western restaurants, subway, etc.
Do you know what area you will be moving to yet? |
