There is no such language as Swiss, you're referring to Swiss-German, and yes, they're not the same, but very similar. But please do go ahead and tell us about your fluency in 'Swiss'.

You have to admit though, we have yet to hear people say that they are fluent in American...

Most people in the US can readily understand people native to London. However Londoners and Americans would have a lot of difficulty understanding some English speaking people in areas outside of London. The same is true of Londoners and Americans understanding the English in some inner cities in the US and some English in the South. The differences in English between England and the USA are not any greater than the differences between regions in England and regions in the USA. At least that's how it seems, not being an expert on the issue. Laughing Sort of like phylogenetics.

yes, i am referring to swiss german and no, they arent very similar, a german wouldnt understand a swiss person speaking at all so they have to revert to speaking and writing in hochdeutsch. The tenses for example are different , they dont usually use a past tense and use Schwiizerttsch words to compensate. Really, its like comparing Dutch or Afrikaans to german because they are both germanic in origin. they are all different languages.

i lived in switzerland for 2 years and i had to learn both german and swiss separately with two different teachers.

go ahead and tell me about your two week trip to geneva or something? or quote something from wiki, thall do...

From that list...

Park Ji Sung must be a 'low quality foreign teacher'!

Nice to know I'm a polyglot according to the KT, but in reality am average at my 2nd language and am at lonely planet phrasebook level at another few.
