We are getting ready to leave for Korea and we are packing up. We have enough deorderant to ensure we don't stink and we are stuffing toilet paper in every little area we can find.

So for the benefit of the newbies, what item(s) do you miss the most, that you can't find in Korea?

Uh, toilet paper is used in Korea. Wiping with leaves went out years ago.

If I've said it once, I've said it a million times, but it's an honest question. I's suggest pics of family and friends, and food. Spices don't take a whole lot of space, and make a huge difference

Well for the most part food items are what I miss

Kraft dinner, sausage, cheese, chili powder, cajun seasoning, any spice blend that you enjoy at home you probably wont be able to find here.

Brown bread, rye bread any dark bread.

Can you bring some of that "space" with you? It's in short supply here. Definitely the thing I miss the most.

This is going to sound hillbilly hick but I miss golden turnips and beets. Yeah, I know, he misses root vegetables Rolling Eyes . But mashed golden turnips with butter at Thanksgiving and general family get-togethers were terrific. There are no golden turnips here. They have been made extinct somehow (?) or nobody liked them and so they aren't cultivated, and are now extinct. Yes, the big, waxed, homely looking 'golden turnip' you are seeing in a North American Safeway is the object of my dreams. Along with beets. There are beets here, but one beet is not cheap and looks so puny for the price that I just off the notion of buying the runt offered for a 'king's ransom'. If I had some golden turnip seeds and if I had a garden plot going I'd be growing them, definately.
Otherwise, a person can get just about everything here.

I would suggest not bringing anything except for clothes (one suitcase), a camera, toiletries, an alarm clock, a couple of books, important documents (passport, etc) and an open mind.

These people who arrive in Korea with 30 things of deoderant, chilie seasoning, sheets/bedding, turnips and a desk top computer (and purchase an oven the minute they get to Seoul) generally get on my nerves.

I like to travel light so if things go bad I can get on a flight and head to the next scene.

Tampons! They are soooo expensive here. Also if your bra cup size is bigger then a B then bring a years supply of bras! Also don't bring a lot of clothes...they are soo cheap here you will find yourself getting rid of your clothes three months into it. (also if you are like me and enjoy the food you will gain weight and not fit into any of oyur clothes Sad )
