The same things I did before the Internet existed.

Yup, same here.
PS. I don't think many people here are old enough to have known what are a BBS and dial-up modems.
PPS. I was amongst the first few million to use the WWW (1993 or 1994). I remember when I used it for the first time (my university had suddenly stopped using the Gopher protocol like so many others because it was no longer free). My buddy was really excited. He wanted to show me something he had found messing around on the internet: a movie trailer. Took 45 minutes of buffering and the image was the size of a postage stamp, but we thought it was awesome. |

I remember BBS well (I even ran one for KOTESOL back in the 90s before I established its first Internet presence soon after). I was also one of the first to use the Internet here in Korea, as a prof friend of mine helped install Korea's first Internet backbone and he gave me a dial-up account (It was definitely an interesting experience when my prof friend contacted me while I was in the States and asked me to call a number for him and Tim Berners-Lee answered the phone...). It was actually quite fun doing things from the command line, although getting phone line drops (or not connecting) could be frustrating.
What would I do without the Internet? Much as others said: I'd do what I did before the Internet. |

+1 to that. Internet was more fun in those days. I would probably spend more time outside and reading. |

the internet is fantastic!
The k-reason im saying this is that being an expat, and not managing to get home very often, the internet allows me to do alot that i wouldnt otherwise be able to do.
internet shopping (international delivery).
the news.
job search.
downloading (i cant always find what i want in the dvd shop).
downloading (i can NEVER find what i want in a music store).
study (its pretty hard to find books that translate x into english sometimes).
downloading. Buying books gets really expensive or are limited.
e-mailing. obvious reasons.
getting general daily info (for example you-tube 'how to' videos).
teaching ideas. Before, you would have to buy a book and bring it to korea.
Buffering. I can sometimes catch up with whatever im missing.
I really dont spend that much time online, but the internet has really made life a lot more convenient and comfortable for myself and other expats.
I love you internet and i have never taken you for granted. |

| I would would drop off an envelope at the post office every Friday morning, addressed to Dave's EFL Radio. Then I would sit back and listen for Dave to read it over the airwaves on Saturday evening. |

Very cool indeed. Did you know who he was at the time or did you think he was just some IT guy? |
