My post about being called Canadian was meant as a joke. It was a sarcastic response to the Canadians who complain about being called American. Koreans have mistaken me for Canadian a couple of times. I really couldn't care less. I correct them and we move on. They never react negatively when they learn I'm American.

If you're referring to posts on this board, I call BS.

Do a search and (apart from a recent post from "Kristsoy") you won't find many (if any) of the hundreds of Canadians that post on here "complaining about being called American", but you'll find all kinds of Americans slamming Canadians for wearing their flag (which few of us do), talking about a Canadian coffee shop chain... and 50 bazillion posts from Canadians refuting and rejecting the repeated accusation.

So, by my score: for every post from a Canadian "complaining about being called an American", there's 99 from Americans like you, Derrek and sparkx who keep harping about it like it's an epidemic.

Ok, I buy that.

But the challenge stands - go forth into the 160,000 posts on this board and try to find any significant number of Canadians complaining about being mistaken for an American. You'll find lots of posts from Americans who claim Canadians do, but none from actual Canadians talking about themselves. Though you'll find MANY denials.

Well that's not fair. You have the power to delete posts. You've probably taken them all out already. Laughing

It was sarcasm. It was a joke. Lighten up.

...and oh its spelled Separate not Seperate... hooked on phonics works for me!

I'm surprised. It's phonics that has created the "seperate", definate" and "kindergarden" mistakes so common, even at Dave's. We definitely need to separate proper phonetic lessons from the kindergarten tactics of Hooked on Phonics, IMO.

I just remember reading a book when i was a kid one of my fav's that i can't rem now and they were at a spelling bee and they said separate was spelled that way. I have always spelt it that way, my spell checker on my wordprocessor says using Kindergarden is wrong its Kindergarten (which could be confusing for kids seeing as how we pronounce it with a D most times...) so kids are taught Seperate and Kindergarden?

btw who really cares if we are mistaken for what nationality one is? to Koreans without hearing us Speak most of them would assume were American because really there is not distinctive looks between the two nationalities.. so just correct them and move on.

Six months ago there was a newspaper article in NZ about teaching in Sth Korea. It said that there were about 1,500 NZers teaching in Korea. Not sure where they got the info from but it's probably a good indication of the number of NZers in-country.

WTF??? First off, how the fark did I get roped into this crap??
Lemon, as I mod I would expect that you 1. would refrain from slander and 2. would actually know the facts about a situation before commenting like you did. I am from Canada and the only thing that i've said on this forum that relates to the Canada vs. American debate, that I stand by to this day, is that there are a disproportionate number of Canadians here in Korea that hang their hat on being non-American and make it their mission to voice that fact at every opportunity. I can't tell you how many times I've been out with an American friend of mine and some smarmy, holy-than-thou Canadian weazel felt the need to belittle my friend and call them on the sins of their leaders. This is objective fact. People here can make generalizations about koreans ad nauseum, but if criticize the behavior of my own people, I get shat on by a mod?? Great work!

How the hell am I whiny?? Show some proof before posting this garbage peppermint. I've met too many Canadians here in Korea who are complete and utter hypocrites. Illuminating and commenting on this hypocricy is in your mind whiny?? Give it a serious shake!
