No, any association formed, may be deemed a union by the government and that is illegal. Smile

They might be illegal or legal but a foreign teachers union in Korea would, in my opinion, be useless and unfeasable due to the nature of the teaching market here.

I agree. Foreign teachers would need a powerful advocate, not a union.

(sigh) This topic comes up every six months.

Okay, unions are legal, pure and simple. It is illegal however for E-2 holders to join one.

But if it were only an association that helped foreign teachers get together and help in settling new teachers into Korean life. Would that be illegal.

This sounds more like a volunteer association to help newbies.

It would still be unfeasable due the nature of the teaching market, i.e. mostly short-term teachers (1-2 years) with little interest in investing in the place (quite understandable).

Not as far as I know. But who would be willing to do this (in addition to their job)? Unless it is a person at their school it is unlikely to happen. Then too see what Mr. Homer said.
