I'm wondering how picky I should be in my selection with regards to the size of the city I wish to work in. I don't really care where it is, I just think it's best to teach in a medium to large sized city. Do you think these are reasonable stipulations?

It really depends on what kind of lifestyle you are looking for.

What city/town you are in greatly changes what you will experience and how happy you can be if it affects you. For example, I used to live in Daegu a great city in my opinion and then transferred to a midsize boonie closer to Seoul. While most would think that being closer to Seoul would be more active, I found the opposite to be true.

Each city has it's own life and flavor. I would look deep into what city you're going to be at and take it into consideration.

In a country that is only 400km x 400 km where you can go from end to end in 4 hours or less (on the ground) ... you'd be far better off focusing on the job and less on the city name.

It will be my first time teaching ESL in Korea.
I want to find a job teaching adults specifically in Seoul because I have a Korean friend who lives and teaches there who will help me acclimate to life in Korea.
My friend lives with her mom and they've already made me promise to eat home-cooked meals with them often.

Is this an unrealistic or mistaken goal?
Will it be a difficult endeavor for me to find a position if I look only for jobs in Seoul?
Is the adult ESL job market in Seoul super competitive?
I'm a woman with a B.A. & an M.A. in English Lit and 2 years experience teaching 11th and 12th grade English here in the states.

The ESL job market in Seoul is more competitive, period. I would go for what researched out to apparently be the best job, and if it happens to be in Seoul that's just bonus points.

If you are determined to teach adults, you will most likely be teaching split shifts. I've never done split shifts but I've heard it's demanding.

It looks as though you have the qualifications that would put you at the top of a resume pile.

Apply, apply, apply, ...

How picky should you be? Not at all in my opinion. You'll be lucky to land a gig in Seoul with all of the competition out there. The market is flooded.

I disagree. A woman, with good credentials and especially if young/attractive, should have few difficulties getting a job in Seoul - hagwons in particular.

Universities are a different matter, since those are often (not always) reserved for those married to a Korean.

depends on your age and qualifications. Don't be too picky unless your the "desired age" for EPIK/GEPIK. Laughing You have to go where the jobs are and probably will learn to love Korea wherever you get a job.
