What is the deal with signing and agreeing to a contract, then having the employer change it at their discretion and having a recruiter tell you your employer has made a contract based on the recruiters contract and now and now there are still are few things to negotiate.........one of them being pay day. my contract states the 10th of each month and is what I signed to, now my employer is trying to change it to the 17th of each month.

NOTE: This will be me first pay since arriving in Korea 4 weeks ago.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Don't agree to anything that goes against the contract. They are trying to pull a fast one

Ok thanks for your reply. Their argument is that because I never started until the 17th of June, my pay day is not until the 17th of each month, but thats not what I signed to in my contract.

10 days is 5 days late.

I try to get paid on the 5th or earlier after working a month.

Seems like you are an intelligent person thinking earlier than I have seen. So, find another offer.

They can say 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, or 16.

I don't budge. And 17, I don't question. You know what 7 means, yo wee yo? It means one more week, 1 more week means one more Saturday and Sunday without your pay. You want that bitch?

Homey don't think so. Time to find a different joint. Peace, out.

Hopefully you have some cash on you. I'd make it clear that if I don't get paid on the 10th I don't come to work on the 11th. Don't work for free.

If they are withholding a weeks pay in case you run- Don't accept withholding one weeks pay. They already owe you an extra month and a ticket at the contract's end. They don't need the extra weeks pay too and you don't need that extra exposure. If they don't trust you then they should give you your release and find a teacher they do trust.

Start looking at new job opportunities today.

IF.....

If your pay period is the 17th to the 17th and you get paid on the 17th then I see no problem with it.

If your pay period is the calendar month (1-31) and they want to change payday from the 10th to the 17th (17 day hold-back on your wages) then say no , quit when they are late (morning of the 11th) and file a complaint to get your unpaid wages.

The bad news is that if you have already transferred your E2 to them you may not be able to take another job till your contract expires.

If you are NOT on an E2 then walk at your convenience.

Thanks everyone for your input. I held off on getting paid yesterday because I needed more advice. I asked for any amendments to my contract to be made in writing and I think they had a little freak out at that so they agreed to pay yesterday. However then came the next two parts which were "we will pay you 1,685,000 because you have not worked a full month". I understand not working a full month (I'm getting paid the standard 2.1 mil per month) but I dont understand the way they work it out. According to them, they divide 2.1 by 30 days and come up with 70,000 per day. Is that how they work things out here? I work Monday to Friday, so confused as to how they figure they pay me on a daily basis including the weekends. Then to top it off they said they will be withholding 10 days as a deposit. Is that standard practice to take 700,000 won from someone in their first pay? I thought it was taken over the first few consecutive months and I also thought it was only about 300,000 or is it at the discrepancy of the director?

They are ripping you off. Deposits are runner insurance, which is a bad sign
