This will be my second time going to Korea on an E2 visa. The school that wants to hire me has already submitted the documents in Korea, so I am just waiting for the visa issuance number. I am an American in China now on a tourist visa and hope to pick it up in Beijing at the Korean embassy. I know some people do visa runs to Japan, so it shouldn't be a problem getting it in China, right? I emailed the embassy there, but am still waiting for a response. Thanks in advance for any advice that you can give me! |

The embassy in Beijing USED TO only give visas to "residents" of China and not people on "L" (tourist) visas.
I have not heard that it has changed but anything is possible and my information is more than 2 years old.
HK, Japan, Guam, Philippines and Thailand are possibilities if the Korean embassy in Beijing won't.

Sounds like an adventure of the naive proportions. If it works, I can buy you a few beers in Sanlitun. Please tell me how you did it.
Sorry, no pity drinks if you fail. |

I have no idea if they still do it or not, but several years ago they did - at least for me. I got a Chinese tourist visa in Seoul (L visa) and flew to Beijing
to get an E2 visa. I arrived in Beijing early and went straight to the Korean
embassy. I remember having read that it took longer to process there, and that it couldn't be done the same day or even by the next day (as
with Japan). I can't remember exactly, but I think I had to return three
or four days later to pick it up - but there wasn't any problem.
Good luck and let us know how it goes. |
