What do you guys know about this one? I just signed on for another year and am thinking it might be time to consolidate devices and this looks like promising tech. I am concerned about whether I could use it back in the US? The guy in the store told me I could get it as a PPS (pay as you go) phone so I won't have to deal with the slavish data plan stuff. |

This might be a bit late for the OP, but for what it's worth and for anyone else wondering the same.....the answer is definitely 'yes'.
I have an Optimus G Pro and recently took it on holiday to the UK with me. Took out the Korean SIM, put in a PAYG SIM from a UK network and everything worked absolutely fine, with the local UK phone number my phone then had saving me and anyone who called me an absolute fortune.
To my surprise, even Kakaotalk continued working seamlessly without me having to adjust anything at all. I'd been under the impression that your Kakao account was linked to your phone number and that I'd have to set up a different account under the UK number I was using. Not so, as it happens. Even though I'd intended to not use my Kakao in the UK (so as not to do anything that might mess up my Korean Kakao account for when I returned) several people texted me on it while I was away - their messages arrived and I replied exactly as would have happened had I never left Korea.
I did still get the 1 second or so lasting SK screen with their T symbol when the phone was booted up or shut down, but that didn't bother me in the slightest as it had no effect whatsoever on the phone's smooth operation when used in the UK. I'm not, myself, a fan of rooting, but I'd guess that rooting would get rid of those for anyone who was particularly irritatated by them. |

Yes, SK and KT phones are certainly all unlocked and that's been the case for several years. I wasn't surprised that my G Pro worked in the UK as I'd heard of plenty of people taking other smartphones from Korea to there and being able to use them. Some people did have to do some tweaking with certain aspects though, and I know of one or two who'd had problems getting 3G to work.
In my case, everything worked fine from the moment the phone was first booted up with the new SIM card in it. |

I've been looking and looking and it 'seems' I can purchase my own handset and then set up my own data plan rather than a 3 year contract for data neglect.
Any thoughts on this offer?
