First tell me what shotmail is and then I'll tell you the difference.
When I first read your post, I thought it was a typo for "hotmail message". Then I started to question just how out of the loop I might be and maybe shotmail is a thing. It sounds like it could be a thing.
Anyway, as far as I can tell, a text message is limited to the number of characters it may contain. Also, it is tied to your phone number, whereas many other messaging services aren't necessarily tied to your phone number (eg. email address, FB, etc.). |

I've wondered the same thing. My old phone has both text and shot mail. |

Shotmail is a shoddy term used by LGU+ to stylize their MMS.
I'm not sure whether such a distinction is still made on their smartphones, but old-fashioned LGU phones have that separation between SMS(~100 bytes) / LMS(~300) / Shotmail (300+ bytes). |
