A friend of mine is going to Korea (his wife is from Seoul, they met in Canada) this fall to visit his wife's family. They will likely not go back to Korea for several years due to budget constraints. They have no kids (yet) and they will stay for 3-4 weeks. Anyway, sorry for the long intro but he asked me for advice on something and I was wondering if someone would have more current info / tips / advice on this...
They have reserved a rental car for 12 days and wish to drive down the coast from Seoul (incheon side) to Busan and back up the other Coast.
I drove around a lot in Korea but never did this kind of trip.
I was wondering if any of you could offer up some advice on how doable this is and how long it would take them at a casual pace, leaving time to stop when they wish to along the way...
Thanks! |

A road trip starting from Seoul would be an epic way to spend a couple of weeks. Head south to Daejeon, through Gunsan, maybe a temple or two in Jeollabuk-do, through Mokpo, ferry the car over to Jeju-do, enjoy the island, ferry back to Busan (if you can't, Mokpo works fine as well). Head east to Tongyeong, through Geoje-do, down to Busan, up to Gyeongju, then follow the coast up through Samcheok (Phallic Park!) and further north if you like up to Kim Jong Il's boyhood home. I'd head west and south to some places harder to reach by public transportation (national parks, etc.), then head back up around the area.
At the risk of blatant self-promotion, my new book has enough stuff to keep roadtrippers busy for months. Weird and Wonderful Korea - it's on Amazon and can be ordered from What the Book (http://whatthebook.com/book/9781627762878). |

Thanks Chris!
I should have thought of asking you personally through your blog.
Will pass this on to my friend and heck may do that road trip you described myself next time we visit. Thanks a lot!
By the way, I checked out your book in kindle edition and it just great. Well done! |
