Hey guys,
So I'm looking at applying for the public school positions in Korea for spring 2014, the hiring cycle of which I've been led to believe is October 2013-March 2014.
I haven't sent off for my background check yet because I know it's only valid for 6 months and I don't want it to expire before the end of that hiring cycle. I know it takes 2-3 months to receive it but I don't know what date is used to judge the 6 month window on background checks.
For example, if I send off for it in August and the clock starts ticking as soon as they receive my request, it'll only be valid until January 2014. This has made me wonder whether I should wait until October to apply for it.
However, for all I know they'll be using the date it's sent back to me, meaning that if I apply for it in August the clock would start ticking once I receive it in October/November.
Any advice on the matter? Thanks so much! |

The CBC is valid for 6 months from date of issue (printed on the form when they issue it - not when you apply for it or when you receive it).
It needs to be valid (less than 6 months old) when it lands on the desk at immigration during the application process. It has nothing to do with the job start date.
If you are looking for a PS position then you need to be ready with documents in hand in Oct or Nov.
EPIK/GEPIK recruitment usually cuts off about 90-120 days before start of term.
Close of application for spring (Mar.) happens in early Dec of the prior year.
Close of applications for fall (Aug) usually happens in April/May of the same year. |

Great information! Thanks very much. I'll make plans to send off for my background check in the next week or so. I also need to get my diploma apostilled and will submit that by the end of the month. |
