Not true. That is not my mission. (And I didn't say that- certainly not many times. I just said if someone is a bully, bully them back, as unfortunately other methods won't work.) My mission is to learn and discuss pertinent information. Not sure why the hardened Korea defenders even post on this board. They want to tell everyone how great and worderful they are and how Korea is great and those who are not in their position suck...yet they do all this without being interesting or insightful.

You sure do know a lot about how everyone else on the board thinks, I'll give you that. It must be a burden, to be sitting there eating your cereal in the morning and having my thoughts popping into you head ("Oh shit, its transmogrifier again, and he's thinking about how he's going to go on Dave's ESL and proclaim the greatness of Korea again.....oh, shit, no he's imagining Lee Hyo-Ri naked again!!!).

In life I try to hang out with (and think about) winners. On Dave's, however, I can't avoid the losers. I read posts which make me stupidier instead of improving my mind. I am annoyed, but beyond that I don't think of them...except wondering how I could get the stupid people to stop posting on here (which would benefit me and everyone else)...but...it's not possible.

There is an easy solution to that. Your mission to rid this site of the people that annoy you won't happen, as you just said. Now that you've come to that conclusion it might just be time to move on.

Is Dave's still worth reading and posting on even with the vapid people who degrade its quality? Maybe. There are still some smart and interesting people left.

You don't get in there and throw around a few digital high-fives when the PGHB bashing is going down?

Maybe I do. I've never called Pat or anyone else an apologist as far as I know. I do disagree with some posters and the usual responses, and have made that known. My digital high fives and coat-tail riding pale in comparison. And contrary to what some people seem to think, I don't take things so seriously. It's just an internet forum.

I'm the opposite of an apologist. I prefer my church over Korea. Very Happy

I guess apologist is meant to be an insult. But what i often see is some poster offering a devil's advocate point (or a different experience) about Korea and suddenly they are labelled. Perhaps not always....

I have been here for long over a decade. I don't post much because i don't have much to add to the threads on Dave's.

I am married to a Korean. We have a fantstic relationship. I lead a pretty sheltered life, by my own choosing. i go to work. Go home. Repeat. Sometimes Korea is confusing to me. But my language skills are getting better every day, as is my understanding of the culture.

I came from Canada and i grew up in a small prairie town. This place is so different it is mind boggling. But, since i came here i have saved a great deal, started a hobby i always wanted to pursue and have contributed a lot to my workplace. I am but a small drop in Korean education, but I am a good drop. If that makes me an apologist, then I accept it. I neither love Korea, nor do I hate it. It is different than Canada, but after 15 years it is home.

I think this is a great threat and I hope it turns into a sticky one. If nothing else, this thread allows all apologists a space to vent about all of the injustice and prejudice they have had to overcome on this forum.

I know for a fact that Steelrails and PatrickBusan had spent a great deal of time fighting against the infidels and simpletons that always try to degrade Korea's pride and honor.

The word 'apologist' is wrong on so many levels - I believe the correct term should be 'freedom fighters' or 'the justice league'!

Generation gap, experience gap, commitment (to Korea) gap. Seems pretty clear that perspectives will vary on a site like this - but the way I see it: Veterans were all newbs with the same problems at one point and speak from a position of experience. The newbs are.. well, young and opinionated.

Nice little circle jerk going on here, but there's nothing wrong with the word itself, and in most cases it's used correctly on here.

Apologist: A person who argues in defense or justification of something, such as a doctrine, policy, or institution.

Big deal. Sure, it can be used in a negative way and often is in debates. So what. That's what happens when people disagree. No sense crying about such a benign term.

The term can potentially be used as an insult, but on this website is used as a grouping term for a group of posters here who tend to argue in the same predictable and tedious ways every time someone writes something they disagree with.

Would you guys prefer a different grouping term? Because I'm sure someone can think of something much more colorful than "apologist" (gasp!).

As someone else mentioned above, how about the "Freedom Fighters"?

I've always favored "The Four Horsemen" for the usual gang.

What would we be if we were all in a band?

I think I'd be rhythm guitar. Always prattles on the most. A bit of a black sheep. Not sure about the other guys. Captain Corea might be our marketable, more reasonable seeming frontman.
