Hello there!
I'm a 23 year old English guy who became CELTA-qualified in May. Since then I have been working for a private language school in my city after a tip-off from a friend. However, I've been keen to get to Korea since long before I ever did my CELTA!
I've been pretty bad at getting organised and was hoping to get to Korea in October. However, I was really hoping to teach at a public school. I know that EPIK is looking for a February 2014 intake but that is just too far off. After doing my research, I am not that keen to go for a Hagwon.
Does anyone know if it is possible to get a public school job this late? I am aiming for Seoul but heard that it's hard to get a public school position with less than a year's experience anyway.
Any advice is much appreciated!! Thanks! |

Look into Gyeonggido also, it surrounds Seoul. Incheon is another good area. See if a recruiter has a job offer in one of those 3 places. If it is Gyeonggido make a new thread and mention the exact city so we can recommend it or tell you it is too "rural". |

Since classes start back in about a week or two, I'd say your chances are pretty slim. |

Thanks for your responses! Yeah I did think it was a quite late but thought that some schools might hire someone later into their term. I think that I am set on living in Seoul or as close as I can possibly be though. |

Most of my public school gigs started in the OFF seasons. (MAY, OCTOBER, NOVEMBER) That being said, I was already in KOREA and able to start immediately. There is a DEFINITE advantage of being IN Korea to getting hired.
People have emergencies EVERY DAY and LIFE HAPPENS!
Thus creating sudden job vacancies.
If you can afford to buy a ticket to get here and have all documents ready, I feel certain you would be working within a week.
Oh wait, I just noticed you said Seoul, forget my advice. |
