Yup. I had the landlord show me how to change the door combination. He told me to write down what my combination was and I did. A little later on, I changed the combination again.
My landlord seems nice enough but you never know. If you ever have a falling out with your school and they call the landlord for whatever reason, your landlord will always tell them your key number or give them a set of keys. I had this problem when I first came to Korea. Our sister hagwon owned my apartment and my main hagwon cut their relationship with them. The boss from the sister school constantly broke in and threatened to throw our stuff onto the street while we were at work. Luckily he didn't. |

My landlord is a little old man. He comes in all the freaking time to fiddle with my thermastat and turn off my gas (since I never do, and he thinks its gunna blow). Really annoying.
I almost punched him one time because he came in without knocking and just unlocked the freaking door. Me and my Korean girlfriend were making out on my bed and she was supper embarrassed. I was just pissed.
Before that incident I had just found it funny and kinda quaint. He is a nice old guy. He helped me move in and is always coming to fix stuff. When my pipes froze he went out in the middle of the night with a blow dryer to thaw them out. Nice guy, but has no clue as to Western culture. I try to be nice but its hard. |

That is what I thought. I supervised the whole lock changing process.
As the guy was about to drive off on his scooter I did hear a shout from my
landlady (directed presumably at the key guy), but I couldn't discern what she said.
So, she now has a key to my villa again. |

Invest in an keypad lock. You can change the combination anytime you wish as many times as you wish and there's nothing she can do about it. There's no key for her to steal, scam or copy. |

My contract ends in a month, so there is no point. It would also have
prevented the random people that would just walk into my house looking
for the landlady. She never told them that she moved downstairs.
The keypad lock should have been my first investment.
Lesson learned. |

I was just humiliated.
LOL it was pretty funny, though, as they called my director and asked him to tell me to keep the place presentable.
Hey, I was in between places and it was hectic at the time, so I let the place go for a week or two---who hasn't?!
....Honest to God this is a true story. That should teach 'em to bring prospective buyers to MY house announced. |
You probably lucked out that the apartment was so disgusting when they decided to visit. If you'd cleaned it up, you can be sure that they'd have brought other people by to look at it later. As it is, they probably lost the prospective tenants and are now showing off someone else's apartment. |

Where can I buy a keypad lock, and what's a reasonable price for one?
The fishiest thing about my apartment being burglarized is the fact that whoever did it locked the door on the way out. I'm sort of wondering if my employer entered and stole my cell phone to look at my call history (I've been calling the pension office, tax office, etc) and to deprive me of using my cell phone. I don't think my landlord would've taken the cell phone and I can't imagine anyone else locking the door behind them on the way out. I'm guessing the coffee and Hite were taken just to stage it to look like a real burglary.
The whole thing is puzzling. My cell was only 60,000 won new, and the cell phone charger and battery sitting beside of it wasn't taken. Items of greater value weren't taken either. |

Any lock shop. They range from about 60 to 100k won, including installation. |

What? WT*? I am torn between shock, anger, disbelief, and LOFL!
That would freak me out so bad!
The only experience I have had (to my knowledge) was that my boss called me into his office one day and said he had taken liberty to vacuum my floors because he had got his socks dirty while looking around my place.WT*?
This was the same day I had gotten up early and swept, mopped, and polished my floors before going to work! He proceeded to say two of my three bedrooms were very nicely decorated but the third one could use some adjustments.Again, WT*? ( BTW,The third one I was using for storage)
After that, I started leaving unwashed dishes, piles of dirty laundry, etc. along with cleaning supplies in clear few, just in case he felt to urge to come and tidy up the place again. (to his standards)
I also found out from my replacement teacher that he told her get up, scrub the floors on her hand and knees, before coming to work because he may visit "his" apartment from time to time. Somebody, anybody, tell me the logic here? |
