For EPIK, I need 2 letters of reference (one academic, one professional).

I haven't had a teaching or volunteer job yet (I just finished my TESOL in early Sept).

I'm going to get a reference letter from my TESOL instructor (counts as academic) but the other one will come from a former manager in a print shop. I worked there for over a year and even after I quit, he said I did a wonderful job and he will provide me with a reference when I need one.

Now the requirements for the letter are many, but one states that it has to "speak to the applicant’s strengths and weaknesses relevant to teaching English in Korea ". He is clueless about my teaching ability, so what can he put in the reference letter? He can obviously talk about how reliable I was and what characteristics make me a good employee.

Has anyone else sent a letter of reference from a company that is not related to teaching?[/i]

Good employee: punctual, motivated, self starter, works well without supervision, team player - works well with others.

I think EPIK requires teaching experience, doesn't it?
Anyhow you should be able to get a reference from your TESOL director concerning your teaching. Those references are not the greatest, but they do work and count as references.

Since you are already getting one from your TESOL instructor, if you worked with a professor on something or know a professor from the university you went to get him or her to write a recommendation.
