-Korean-American
-born in 1984
-grandfather put my name on the hojuk
-parents became citizens after I was born

I'm trying to get the paperwork to apply for an F-4 visa.

I saw the requirements that another poster posted and my parents don't have any of them! (they are terrible with paperwork)

Quote:
-$45 & korean visa application
-my u.s. passport
-my u.s. birth certificate
-one copy of father's recent family registry documents (hojuk)
-slip of my father's renunciation of korean citizen (in korean, it's referred to as a receipt)
-one copy of my father's u.s. certificate of naturalization

How do I even begin to go about getting this process started? All I have right now is my US passport.

another serious question for you, are you a male or female?

because your name is on the Hojuk and the law changed, if you come over here and are male, you may have to do military service. WELCOME! lol

I assume I can get a copy of my family's hojuk myself, from the Korean Consulate, but what do I do about my parents' renunciation of Korean citizenship and U.S. Certificate of Naturalization?

I asked my parents if they have anything from Korea (old IDs or documents) and they don't have anything. It's been like 30 years since they were there so I'm not surprised.

I'm a male. That's exactly what I'm scared of. From what I've read, the first thing I need to do is get my name removed from the hojuk, but the whole process is intimidating.

You can only get the family tree if you have your birth certificate and dad's Korean Social number.

Just get your dad to go to us immigration office and get another naturalization filled out.
