Does it happen elsewhere? I don't have an Abercrombie and Fitch store where I'm from and the restaurants don't keep the music at an acceptable volume within their premises. Definitely no speakers outside. |

Most clothing stores in the mall, such as A&F or Hot Topic, etc. will play their music a little on the loud side compared to say, Crabtree & Evelyn or Coach.
Most of the restaurants that have music playing back home are either Italian or Mexican joints pumping out "traditional" music to give it some sort of mood. The Mexican restaurants do it more. Some coffeehouses back home do it, many don't. I think A&W dine-in/drive-ins do it too, but its been forever since I've been to one of those. The Jamaican place had reggae blasting. I think one of the sports bars put a few speakers outside by where the smokers congregate if I recall... |

No, because people were making the claim that you had to have cool, pleasant temperatures in order to come up with "great thoughts". I'm pretty sure that Italy or Greece in the summer time is rather warm. Does that mean they didn't do any "great thinking" in the summer? Without A/C how were they able to control the temperatures enough to be able to think in comfort?
Or maybe that whole temperature thing is a crock of crap.
Don't worry, someday you might get critical thinking down. Just ease up on the critical and emphasize the thinking. |

I'm confused. I worked in retail for many years in the UK and I never saw a store, cafe, or restaurant that had speakers outside their premises playing music. I don't recall hearing music when I was in the US but that was many years ago, perhaps things have changed.
I think it's against the law in the UK to play music outside your business premises. I'm not sure though. I think common decency prevents businesses from blasting shitty music at passerbies. |

30 degrees is 30 degrees. 30 degrees in Venice is 30 degrees in Seoul.
30 degrees in Venice, according to the theory, should inhibit "great thinking", so for this to be true, the Venetians would have had to either have great thoughts only in Winter, Spring, and Autumn OR they must have had some sort of A/C unit.
Which is more likely- A) That no "great thoughts" ever took place in hot climates or in summer time B) That ancient and medieval times around the world enjoyed an abundance of A/C or C) That this whole room overheating/hot temperatures inhibiting "great thoughts" theory is complete crock of crap?
Use that critical thinking.
To say nothing of the fact that I'm pretty sure that from year 2000BC to year 1970 in Korea, winter heating was often dodgy and haphazard. Unless I'm mistaken and peasant life in the year 1100 was one of warm bliss during the winter months. |
