Has anyone ever had one of these? From what I understand the technology is quite different from traditional convection ovens, which can cause changes in cooking times. They are supposed to be faster, but I am worried that this would end up causing more headaches.

Anyhow, any feedback? Model recommendations?

zipel and dios are just brand names like bmw 3-series (soon to be 4-series) or audi a class. there are many models that differ. both zipel and dios have models that operate just like a standard convection oven as far as i know.

They are usually able to do 3 things: microwave, grill, oven. Many can do even more like steaming and dehydrate.
You can use each one of these features individually if you want. Works just like a regular microwave, a convection oven or grill.

There is a whole bunch of pre-set programs for various things. For example there is a sweet potato baking setting. This way it uses a combination of oven and microwave functions which reduces the cooking time. It’s not difficult to choose one of these pre-set things but again, you don’t need to use them if you don’t want to.

From what I've read, they are all infrared/lightwave ovens (광파오븐). I don't believe they make traditional convection models. There's not too much English info on them, as they don't really sell much outside of Asia, so I was wondering if anyone had any experience with them.

Cheers.

I'm not sure how much cooking you do, but have you had to adjust cooking times for recipes, or pay extra attention?

They look nice, but I'm just wondering if they are worth the extra 300K, or if I should just get a small cheapo convection one.

Convection oven means an oven with a fan.
You have those infrared whatever heating elements on the top of the oven (toaster ovens use similar heating except they have them on the bottom as well) and there is a fan that distributes the heat so it bakes evenly. Unless you put something very close to the top.
We usually add a couple of extra minutes on top of the set one and leave the thing alone until its ready. Although I usually just use it on oven setting. My wife loves the combination settings for fish, sweet potato and the like.
Whether they worth it or not depends on your needs.

We have one of those DIOS ones.

Oven is great. Stick whatever in, turn the dial for temp and time and off you go. No idea if it cuts down on time or not. I put in chicken breasts in tin foil into a cold oven for 30 mins and they always come out well.

Microwave bit does its job. I don't use it really but my wife does. I guess it works well because she's always heating rice up in it.

Grill is confusing. Doesn't seem to get hot much. I've tried to see if there are a bunch of temp/level settings but doesn't appear so. It cooks stuff just slowly. Mine also doesn't allow the door to be open while cooking. I'd much rather grill with the door down and see what I am cooking. Can be a pain for sausages to open, check, close, restart etc.

Good little machine though.
