| Because the US is not the world. China, Japan, Philippines, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and so on are the center of the Kpop market. That's a big chunk of people. |
But there is NO proof that K-pop acts have more enthusiastic fans than Western pop acts like Lady Gaga and Justin Beiber who actually can sell millions albums and sell out stadiums all over the world. 80.8% of K-Pop's international sales come from Japan. But most Japanese people knew nothing about Youtube music awards. If K-Pop acts are really popular then why we don't see them selling millions albums and selling out stadiums all over the world?
As I said, Koreas are trying way to damn hard to promote K-pop. Even the Korean media has reported about companies using programs or paying a 3rd party to manipulate view counts on K-pop videos on YouTube ; "There are a lot of people in the industry who manipulate YouTube views. The problem is that those views make up a big reflection in the rankings for music programs."

Well, SR got some better dope than I did this weekend, cause he's fishing in the clouds yet again.
All of those songs would probably sound better played backwards on vinyl and most award shows are absurdly self congratulatory and revolting anyway. YouTube music video awards, come on, I don't know how that shit works, but a 3 million count difference between #1 and #2 on that scale? The difference accentuates the "who cares about youtube view counts" demographic, and the benefit of the doubt definitely is not in Korea's favor. Again, fairly obvious what's going on here. These poor girls get an appearance on Letterman, a Regis woody and a fake award, while Bieber is renting a house in Brazil and Japanese porn banging bikini contestant hookers at 17. Lefil, whoever he is, is on target.
I, personally, wish none of them existed. One reflects the reflected Canadian dream and the other reflects a paranoid, strange state funded by a cultural campaign that, generally, fails, and makes them look like fools. |

Never said there was anything redeeming about them, just that in an area as large as Asia, a place with 4X the number of people as the US, that it shouldn't come as a huge shock that they won decisively.
That and they were better at motivating the obsessed teenage demographic. Bieber HAD a hold on that, but he's on the decline. Now, that's not anything to be proud of, but it means that the vote might have been "legitimate", at least as "legitimate" as anything from the obsessed teeny-bopper crowd can get.
Girl's Generation: We won because our part of the world is over-bred and over-obsessed. That's all I'm saying. |

| If Rain hadn't been voted the "Most Influential Person in the World," I think people would be more inclined to think Girls Generation was genuinely the most popular. Anyway, I'm glad Girls Generation won. I've never heard a single Miley Cyrus or Justin Bieber song, but I get tired of seeing those two, plus Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, every time I get on yahoo.com to check my e-mail. The sooner they become irrelevant the better. |

Could Alabama have won 2 national championships without the BCS balls-up? |
Alabama won it on the field, completely annihilating two undefeated #1 teams by a combined score of 63-14. If the BCS National Championship had been determined by internet votes, Seoul National University would have definitely crushed Bama for the BCS college football championship. |
Not denying that Crimsontide play good football. They wouldn't have been 'chosen' to play for title without the BCS. There were plenty of 'worthy' teams that didn't get 'chosen' due to that flawed system.
Once again: don't be a hater, blame the system. |

Not every Asian loves K-Pop. There are a lot of Asians who love Western pop. In Japan, Lady Gaga has sold more albums than Girl's Generation. |

This year is actually the first season since 2005 that there has been a 'worthy' team outside of the Southeastern Conference!
Keep in mind, Bama was 'chosen' to play Miami for the 1992 National Championship, and this was before the BCS. Alabama was a huge underdog going into the Superdome against the #1 Miami team with its Heisman winner and 29 game winning streak. Most people thought all Miami had to do to win the national championship was just show up at the Superdome to collect their trophy.

Bama was also 'chosen' to play Penn State for the 1978 National Championship. Penn State was #1 and brought a 19 game win streak into the Superdome. Three different Penn State players carried the ball inside the 1 yard line on their final drive, but none of them could get it across the stripe when it mattered.

| Great this degenerates into a college football argument. At least someone is backing a real program. What's really pathetic is when the Oregon and Wisconsin posters come on here and start going on and on about their programs. Seriously, hundreds of NETs on here from all over America, only the Oregon people start threads. At least one a season. New Rule Oregon- No starting threads until your school manages to win a national title. |

Haven't you read "Death of a Salesman"? Don't you remember Willy's neighbour: "Who is Red Grange?"
Well, let's make is easy for you. On the buildings of University of Alabama, it is written: "Be a champion". Not "win a championship". A champion doesn't need you to defend his championship. Your constant need to defend Alabama and their championships are an embarrassment to the University of Alabama and to be frank: what are you hiding? why are you so defensive? have the Crimson Tide been cheating? There shouldn't be a question mark to championships.
My point was about flaws in the way of selecting the winner. The beauty contest called BCS is just an example to illustrate the point. |

| I just took a look at the youtube awards. Christ, what an amateur production. Whoi were those two clowns hosting it? I've seen better productions put on at a high school gym. |

When Texas, LSU, and Notre Dame go into BCS Championship Games with a combined 38-0 record and leave the BCS Games 0-3 versus Bama, Bama "is" the champion those years. Nobody "chooses" who wins the game. The scoreboard determines who is the BCS champion, not voters, and the scoreboard read 37-21, 21-0, and 42-14 at the end of the three games. Voters didn't blow holes through Notre Dame's defense. Voters didn't shut out the LSU offense. Voters didn't run back interceptions against Texas.
Voters did "determine" Rain was the most influential person in the world.
I'm not really into the whole Bieber versus Girl's Generation argument. I don't care about either and get tired of hearing about both. I'm just saying the Rain vote makes people skeptical about the Girl's Generation win just because the idea of Rain being the most influential person in the world was so absurd. |

Voters did choose to put a 1 loss Bama in the title game over a 1 loss Oregon team last year. |

Yes, but still have be 'chosen' to play in the game!
Once again, I am not knocking Alabama football.
I used Alabama as an example of flawed selection procedure called BCS.
Geez, you are an embarrassment.
Alright, one more chance to show me that you are not a mouth-breathing knuckle dragger: defend Tennessee's '98 championship. |

| Better than it degenerating into a typical derails thread, at least. The BCS is the worst system in sports. It makes me despise college football. |

And good for them. Take one of the most storied programs in college football rather than some team that can never get it done and has no sustained history of excellence.

Something about college football promotes irrational loyalty and ranting. I remember some CFB season preview mag where on the predictions page they used the phrase "federal marshals in standoff with run-and-shoot separatist cult".
Undoubtedly the BCS and the whole system around it promoted this. Makes the NCAA BB RPI system look tame and orderly in comparison.
One thing is for sure- The Big Ten sucks. And this is coming from a Spartan fan. Get over it Big Ten people, we blow compared to the SEC and it isn't even close. Grow up and accept it. |
