| Hey everyone, if I can somehow get a letter of release and get approved for a D-10, how long can I leave Korea? I was thinking of going home for a month or so, and then returning. I know D-10 holders can leave Korea but not sure of the time frames. |

I asked a similar question yesterday. Tomppatz replied with this (which I think is applicable to your query);
Out of the country for more than 90 days = yes, you need one (immigration and MOE issue).
Out for less than 90 days then immigration won't need a new one.
Moving to a public school = yes, you need one (employer issue) regardless of how long you were employed in Korea or how long you were out of the country. No CBC = no job (Not a visa or MOE issue).
For a hagwon job = probably not since immigration won't care and neither will most hagwons as long as you can transfer back to an E2.
So the answer is - less than 90 days (enough in your case). Im going to kimmigration to confirm this today, Ill let you know what they say.
Hope that helps |

Use the search function here! Do a google search of this site. This is old news.
The D-10 is valid for 6 months. If you get a D10, then legally, you can leave Korea for as long as you want but you must return before your 6 months is up.
There is AN IMPORTANT condition though. If you leave for more than 90 days then you will need new documents such as a Criminal Record Check when you return and start a new contract.
But as noted above you may need new documents anyway, eg ,for public school jobs. |

| Ok, thanks. But how do you change from an E-2 to a D-10? I'm in the process of ending my current contract and would like information on how to go about changing my E-2 to a D-10. I know a LOR is probably needed but when should I apply for it? Near the last day of employment at my current job? Must someone from my school accompany me or can I satisfy this on my own? |

After your last date of employment and before your ARC expires.
You need:
ARC
passport
LOR
job search plan
application
fee
