My brother stayed out in the countryside for three weeks, painted, hiked, didn't talk to anyone, he loved it. |

His white what? May I suggest you check an English Grammar book out of the library; that will pass the time. |

| Better suggestion, get your self a bigger apartment - like a 2 or 3 room. Spend some cash setting it up into the ultimate bachelor pad. Rip off the wallpaper, paint the walls in a cool color. (Keeps the mold away as the country has mostly older uninsulated buildings.) Buy a wall air con, a dehumidifier, order some nice exercise equipment off g market and this will be your mini western enclave. (Escape the ruralness partly in your pad and partly in your mind.) Of course, plan to be there for a few years to get your money's worth. |

Personally I would not live in the country side, in any country!
I prefer the city and what it offers. In a Korea-centric view, I would not mind a mid-size or smaller city if it was near to a large city in terms of access. I would not live in a village or in the country side in Korea and neither would my wife who is Korean! she finds the countryside to be nice to "visit" but no more.
How to cope? Stay active, find hobbies you like and can do and get to them. A good internet connection can help. Travel around when you can. Get to know the people where you live...any of those would improve your lot I think |

| 15.000 people is a lot. My village in the Caribbean had 1000 people, but we were on the beach though. Before I lived on a monkey golf course and really there were only a few people living there. We use to throw food onto the course to attract monkeys. The golf course was expensive though, 2000 usd a month, but the beach village was cheap, 150 bucks a month. But I lost all my money gambling in options and stocks and had to work for a while. But now I don't have to work, but I want to make zillions of dollars to buy like half the island because those idiots are so annoying. Like seriously, 11pm I'm tryin' sleep and people are knocking on my door to sell me papayas... other guys wives are in love with me so they threaten to stab me. Gotta build a big fence or get some of my homies as bodyguards. And then there was the time that I was testing the float-ability of my raft but my anchor didn't hold so the wind blew me out to sea.. and of course the raft started taking on water so I had to jump off and get rescued by the dive shop. That was pretty embarassing. Everyone in the village was laughing at me (for good reason too). Good thing the dive shop boat (who was driven by my roommate) was right there otherwise the current could have dragged me out into the atlantic. But the thing is , I did it again, this time with a bamboo raft, but the current dragged me towards the fish habitat, where I was able to beach myself on some rocks...which is a lot better than getting swept out into the ocean. What were we talking about? |

I thought about this thread. If youre a total extrovert and need people always talking to you, than maybe the countryside isnt good. If youre a self-starter, than it can be cool. Im 45 min outside of Gangnam, and I can go when I want, but I enjoy my time here.
I think the term Self-Starter is key. You want to talk to people, talk to them. |
