Does anyone think pay it forward (along with the real spirit of Christmas) will make its way to Korea? Just askin'.

Quote:
New England Starbucks customers have certainly enjoyed the Christmas spirit -- about 640 of them and growing.

That's the number of people who have paid for the next person's coffee order at a Starbucks drive-through since Tuesday morning around 8 a.m., Christmas eve, a shift supervisor told ABC News this afternoon.

It's enough to make Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz believe in Santa Claus.

At the Newington, Conn., Starbucks location, as of 2:15 p.m. EST on Thursday, the number of people who have participated in paying it forward topped 640.

"I think it's awesome," said Nicole, the shift supervisor at the location, who is not permitted to give her last name per store policy. "I love this company so much and I'm so proud to work for them. This is what our company embodies. We're all really excited about it."

Brainwashed idiot!

Because people REALLY 'NEED' to buy over priced coffee in the first place!

I don't think paying for a stranger's Starbucks is paying it forward.

Isn't it more like 'paying into the starbucks' CEO pocket'?

Otherwise, it would appear that this is a popular marketing strategy by the coffee shop franchises - http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2013/07/23/man-buys-500-coffees-edmonton-tim-hortons_n_3642254.html

http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2012/12/17/northridge-man-buys-100-cups-of-coffee-for-newtown-residents/

http://myeverettnews.com/2013/02/14/man-spends-1000-to-buy-coffee-for-every-woman-in-downtown-everett/

Either it's a marketing strategy or the people that buy all this coffee have way too much money and their hands and no idea what to do with it.

Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a marketing stint at first which was then copied by actual people that figured it was a good idea (not having brains of their own - monkey see, monkey do).

EDIT: Apparently, there was a fair amount of 'monkey see, monkey do' stuff going on http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2379573/Tim-Hortons-customer-starts-trend-buying-500-coffees-away.html

How is it not paying it forward? When did doing a stranger a solid become a bad thing?

If it's a trend, what's wrong with that? I'd like to see a lot more trends like this.

I'm feeling a lot of guilt in the responses. Put some money in the next Salvation Army pot you pass and you'll feel better.

I wouldn't do it, and Japanese and Koreans wouldn't, either. Come to think of it, I doubt that the Taiwanese or Chinese would, either. This is such an American novelty / idea.

I suggest people stop drinking such expensive coffee for a year and get it for half the price at Macdonalds and then donate their resulting savings to a charity of their choice.

The Starbucks rep above is just a typical corporate drone.

People pay it forward at McDonald's as well. It's not limited to Starbucks.

So are you saying that Asians are just generally uncharitable?

How about Starbucks paying backwards the 60 million pounds of corporation tax they've avoided paying in the UK for the past 4 years.

Are you working for the tax service?

Besides which, pay it forward is not a concept limited to Starbucks nor is it a Starbucks promotion.

I'd say you;d be better off starting an I Hate Starbucks blog or posting on a preexisting one. Or you could hire their accountants and save on our own tax bill.

And with those savings, you too could pay it forward. Smile
