Nah, I just take it to see how I'm doing. Is there even anything that actually requires TOPIK 6? I've never seen a requirement above 5. |

I don't see how 10-15 minutes a day could be enough. I study 3-4 hours a day and am still at the beginner level. I guess some people are better at learning languages than others and I'm not one of them. It's a hard pill to swallow, but I need to accept it and move on (stop studying Korean). It pisses me off so much that some people have a better knack for things than others, but that's life I guess. |

Yea, I think most university programs and the like won't demand anything higher than 5.
In my case, I need level 5 to switch over to the F2 points visa. I'm exactly two points short, and it will push me right over. A friend of mine needs level 6 for the same reason. |

I was just looking over information on the new format and saw something interesting: "eliminate the system 'If any of your skills does not exceed the passing scores, you will fail.'" This is probably a good thing given the writing section looks like it's going to be harder. On the other hand, there's also this:
| Quote: |
| How will the decide the levels? What will be the passing score for different Levels? That is a major change that they have introduced. Now there is no fixed passing score for particular levels (unlike in the old format where we had passing score criteria of 50 & 70 marks). Now they will disclose the cutoff marks on their website after the test is over and these cutoff marks for different levels will be different every time. I think they are planning to introduce the concept of relative evaluation to TOPIK test. They are very clear and specific about it yet but they have said that probably the minimum passing mark for TOPIK I will be 100 out of 200 and for TOPIK II it will be 120 out of 300. But actual passing cutoff will be disclosed only after the test is over. |

I was reading that the other day as well.
It seems like the new format will be a lot more forgiving. I'm hoping to pass this time around, but I'll be taking the summer test as well just to get used to the new format. |

How does the character thing work...are you writing by hand and trying to keep track at the same time? Or are you typing on a computer and it's counted for you?

You might take a crack at doing a course if you have a chance. I found it kickstarted my learning when a year of self-study hadn't really got me anywhere. 3-4 hours might be overkill if you're working full time, maybe you're burning out?
Don't give up! Whenever I find I'm hitting a wall I change up the medium, pick up a childrens book, or watch a Korean TV show you like (I caught 별에서 온 그대 recently and I was surprised to find I enjoyed it immensely, went through the series over a couple weeks), get a new language buddy, etc. Also, I don't think Fox indicated how long they've been here...it might have been longer than you! (lol, and if you weren't Fox, zip it!) |

The writing sheet is a grid, and at the end of each line is a number showing how many characters you've written up to that point. Blank spaces count as characters for the purposes of length. |
