So according to a recent piece in the Korea Times, it would seem as if a growing number of Koreans are starting to feel as if the sexiness factor, especially with female Kpop groups is getting out of hand:
http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/opinon/2014/01/164_150284.html

After reading the piece, I feel I agree. It infuriates me to no end that the management of these young, innocent female entertainers pollute their Korean innocence by pushing them to dress in a provocative manner and dance in excessively suggestive ways.

We should appreciate these young women for their beautiful characters, their intelligence, their strong sense of independence, their work ethic, their commitment to a demanding physical fitness regimen, their critical thinking skills, and their ability to score well on college entrance exams, and their ability to express the beauty of the Korean people, free from the need for plastic surgery enhancement.

How can Kpop lay claim to spreading the soft-power of Korea if they will not allow young and innocent Korean female entertainers to wear hanbok when performing? I hate the way these management companies force the young female entertainers to wear Western influenced outfits and clothes.

It boils my blood to think that these young and innocent girls are looked upon with lust by foreign men who might get the wrong ideas about the purity of Korea and its people.

If Kpop continues to excessively focus on the sexiness of its entertainers, then young women in Korea will feel excessive pressured to imitate the look of Kpop entertainers and this could greatly magnify the gap between the beauty haves and have-nots, further polarizing Korea and weakening it social fabric!

One of the main pillar’s on which Korean pop stands is sexiness.

Sex sells.
There is only one pillar in Kpop.

However, this is one of your more comical posts cmxc.
Enjoyed the satire.

But just several weeks into the first month of 2014, girl groups are rushing headlong into what you might call the sexy war.

Bring it!

Still no real twerking or cleaving going on. They could certainly push the envelope a bit more.

The sexiness is about the only thing that makes the videos worth watching, and I'm pretty sure the executives are aware of this. It's certainly not the music itself.

As much as I like sexiness, it does sort of cheapen it and give it more sleaze factor, which is maybe not what they want if they are trying to pawn K-pop off as a "cultural export". Oh well. I guess they had to try to distinguish it from J-pop, which tends to be more "cute".

"Korean female idol groups are breaking new ground again. In addition to showing off their sexy figures, many of them have started mixing it up by touching their private parts while dancing as well. From Girl's Day to Rainbow, groups have found that feeling themselves up on stage is a quick way to boost popularity.

Girl's Day started the trend of lifting their skirts up and grabbing themselves. This move helped them win three different television show contests. Other groups have started copying the crotch grab. Groups like LA, who used to be more innocent, have also got into the mix.

Grab away ladies, we're watching you."

When third grade classrooms across the nation are mimicking highly commercialized professional pseudo-strippers, yes, it's probably gone too far. There's no meaningful artistry here, it's pure sexuality on display for some easy money.

I don't think I could sexualize third graders no matter how they danced. But that's just me. I see it for what it is, imitation.

As for Kpop. Is what it is. Vacuous fun. Fine with me. Sex has always been in music. Shrug.

Your post reeks of smug, complacent 'tolerance' but really you're just sitting on the fence.

So what are you saying here? Just because you personally don't find third graders sexually attractive when they bend over and rub their crotches during a set dance means it's ok to let it go ahead? So does this 'but that's just me'
comment mean people who think this isn't a good idea are closet
paedophiles? Isn't there the possibility that people don't like seeing third graders behaving like this because it's in generally bad taste to see pre-pubescent girls gyrating like porn stars?

Yes you're right it has, and people have always questioned it. that's why really tasteless exploitative stuff gets banned before it's shown to kids.

Ok so you don't mind your kids watching their pop idols bending over in mini skirts and stockings and rubbing their crotches in prime time TV shows, fair enough. So where would you draw the line? Young girls bending over in underwear rubbing their crotches? Topless girls bending over in underwear rubbing their crotches? Do you see how it's reasonable to think a line should be drawn somewhere or not? If you can see there's a point to discuss here you might re-think your 'shrug' attitude and actually join the debate.

The members in the groups are young. Some are minors. Please stop posting sexual comments in this and other threads.

How is he to know how old they are? Obviously, their choreography got the full approval from their ajeossi managers who I know has their best interests [or is that assets?] at heart.

I thought the Government introduced a law to forbid young girl group members from frolicking in next to nothing clothing whilst dancing provocatively. I guess that's another law that is unenforceable.

I suggest any conservative talker (here or anti-sex kpop advocate) go live a week in Brasil, Greece, Argentina, Venezuela, Spain, any Balkan state or Hungary. If you think any of this is over sexy, you need to get laid.
