High proficiency in Korean and a masters. The sucky thing is, this only gets you an interview, if that. If selected for an interview you have to travel all the way to Busan just for a shot at the job. Teh suxzors!!1 ㅠㅠ Salary is 2.0, maxing out at 2.2? Housing is a student dorm or 300k? This job pays less than a kindy hagwon. (A lot less) |

is it, really?
I suppose it is "a" way, but I'm not at all convinced it's the way. I arrived here at the same time as 3 other buds. We all stayed here 10 years +
Out of all of us, I studied Korean the least. And as a result, am the least proficient.
But I know my bank account would stand up very well to theirs. Much better, in fact.
Not bragging, but it's simple math. They had to take 1-2 years off of major work to attend Uni classes. Not only did they lose that income, but also had to pay tuition. So in the end, they were behind me financially.
Now, there's other factors involved in learning a language - but just looking at purely money here in Korea... really don't think it's needed. |

Well we know the arguments. PGB will say it allows you to network better for the plum university jobs. Fustian corduroy will tell you it'll get you a high paying test prep job, various others will add that they got into non TEFL Korean companies with it, Sam Hammington would probably admit he wouldn't have made it as a comedian in his own language etc etc.. |

As for financial matters, I'm glad I have invested my time in things other than learning Korean during my time here.

I knew a young girl that was an American, dropped out of Junior High School while in the eighth grade, got into gangs, met a Korean-American bf and later moved to Seoul with him. When I met her, she was teaching English in a hogwon. Her writing was atrocious! You could see one of her middle school students pointing to the whiteboard saying: "Teacher, i before e, except after c!"  |

| I am sure I have heard a few stories about a "crazy guy" who lived around Donghae area. He seemed to have no job and just drink and surf all day. I think he was South African I am hoping someone can fill me in with some tales. The stuff I have heard in the past about this guy were hilarious. |
