So according to the Korea Herald, Korean colleges are basically "forging documents" of their student's grades to give their students better chances at getting hired.
I have heard so many rumors from so many foreign language instructors about how much corruption is to be found at so-called "institutions of higher learning" in Korea. The Korea Herald is basically confirming that the degrees churned out by most colleges in Korea aren't worth the paper they are printed on.
Jeez, the corruption in Korea only seems to exponentially multiply.

News for you: employers WANT you to embellish. Haven't you figured that out, yet? Jesus Mary Joseph, get a clue, will ya! |

"corporate employers are shunning transcripts and seeking more diverse tools for evaluating job applicants."
I can just imagine what some of their methods are. |

Employers don't want to be lied to. They may expect that embellishment occurs, but that's a far cry from suggesting they want you to do it. |

Of course they want embellishment from potential employees because it shows desire and a passion which they like. However, when your university helps out in the process, then we have a totally different situation. There was an article I read awhile back that companies like Samsung were shocked by the lack of knowledge of grads they acquired. This problem isn't unique to Korea as the US has the same problem, only these universities are smart enough to give them good grades in the first place so they don't have to tamper with transcripts and incriminate themselves. There was an old saying back in my college days "Pay the fees, get the B's." Well, it seems now it's "Pay the fees, get the A's."
Obviously, not everyone who pays gets A's, but they certainly do catch a break. If you look at universities, it's not dissimilar from hagwons. Parents break their back or bank to send their kids to these institutions. There is pressure there. If higher education were to be honest then they would falter quickly.
Also, I might add that what is taught in universities doesn't prepare you for the cutthroat world of business; although, what could prepare you without just jumping in with both feet? I think most businesses know this and hire people based on perceived intelligence during the interview. They want somebody who will be able to learn the ropes quickly and act accordingly. But they can't even be sure during the interview. It's trial and error with the hiring process.
Thank you for listening to my speech.

Another thing pushing grade inflation is the new emphasis on student evaluations. Especially for adjuncts and others without tenure, it literally pays to give most everyone in their classes an A+.
It's also a lot easier. |

It would help if Chaebol Inc would conduct actual job interviews where they found out what the applicants are good at, rather than using a checklist that solely consists of "Did you go to SKY?" and "can you say a few rote things in Englishee?" and "do you have a nice airbrushed photo?"
Koreans don't really learn much at college, the only goal is getting in via the college entrance exams while in high school. Just getting into a certain college will determine everything.
Then they do get their first job, and they spend the first 5 to 10 years running around making coffee and getting yelled at by the ajeossi class. Then at 45 they're laid off because Chaebol Inc knows best. If they're lucky they can drive a cab or open a fried chicken franchise or go work at CU. |

Yeah, I've been doped up with pain-killers for past couple of days. Bit difficult to be cheerful when you have an aching back. I reduced to getting dressed like a pregnant woman because I can't bend my back or straighten up without pain. |
