I know there was a while when he didn't allow Nigerians. I was shocked to hear that, and I'm certain he lost customers because of that policy. A friend of mine had a stern talk with him about it and he changed the policy. I know Nigerians sometimes tend to loiter and nurse a beer for two hours (not unlike those old Korean guys at McDonalds with their coffee)just to play pool. But banning an entire ethnic group from entering your premises is just inexcusable. And it's not as if the place was busy or anything, and the Nigerians were taking up space that could be used by other customers with more disposable income. The place was always quiet...which was part of its appeal actually.
But yeah, his policy was pretty racist. Sadly that kind of thing is acceptable in Korea. |
He had a long standing policy of keeping anybody Asian looking out of the place, he had problems with locals getting into fights with the mainly USFK people that hung out there. It made the local news on several occasions but of course those reports never had the other side of the issue
In reality it's no different than the Korean owned places keeping foreigners out and its still going on. |
The worst part is the excuse that Koreans are coming in causing problems. If he was checking IDs or something it might make sense but to just keep anyone Asian out just makes it a racist policy. If places like that are getting pushed out of anyone that's a change for the better.
Wouldn't it be funny if the only reason he kept his business going in Korea was because he could legally bar Asians from entering, whereas in the USA he would be forced to serve them? lol. |

| Never once have I heard that he tried to keep Asians out, and to be honest I don't beleve it. The entire staff was Asian (Korean and Philippina). I have seen Asian customers there. I honestly don't know where this "no Asians" story is coming from. |

There was a sign posted on the front door, "No Koreans." This excluded Korean women with foreign guys of course. I don't know if it was enforced. |

Seoul Pub has a sign like that at the front door to the right (in Korean) but it was never enforced. Maybe back in the 1970s or 1980s, but neither place, to my knowledge, ever banned Asians. Christ, Seoul Pub these days is overrun by young Korean kids. |

I remember Nashville, both the upstairs and basement. I ate a few times in the basement and they'd have a movie going with a sign saying "Once a movie starts, finish to the end." The burgers were good at a time when burgers in Korea sucked so badly.
As for the second-floor bar, well, it wasn't much better than Seoul Pub. Nashville Extension was dark and in need of a renovation. Lots of loud drunks and patrons and I stopped going after a while.
I remember Caliente and the salsa dancing it had, and I also remember the third floor also having line dancing when it had a country music theme.  |

So a bar owned by a man who decided to live in Korea and start a business in Korea but didn't want to be around Koreans frequented by customers who decided to work or visit Korea but didn't want to be around Koreans. Sounds like a nice little slice of hell. I think I might actually want that place to exist though just so all those bitter souls would have a place to congregate and leave everyone else alone. |
