Oh, what a fine morning it is. Yuna got the silver, while that Orser guy got the gold for Japan in the men's. She richly deserved this after the way she treated her Canadian coach. "Thanks for the gold medal...You're fired." So Korean. If she kept him on she'd probably have gotten the gold again for Korea. But, as it happened, Orser dusted himself off and went out and got a gold for Japan.
Now we wait for the conspiracy theories, cries of corruption, and the ant-Russia rants.

Payback time is 4 years away...The 2018 Olympics will be in korea....and we know what will happen. The koreans will be winning a truck load of gold!
So far..no korean male has won any medals...it's been all the women! |

| Being the cynical bastard that I am, I think the Russian lass was most likely the recipient of some 'home-crowd advantage' - or more likely the judges were wined and dined the night before. Very much like the 2002 world cup. What goes around, comes around. |

I didn't stay up to watch the event but I do find it hard to believe that she outscored Yuna & the Italian by 5 points if she was the only one to fall out of the three. I'm guessing her routine must have been much more difficult??
I don't know much about the sport of figure skating, nor did I witness the events so I can't really say if the scores were deserved or not....though I'm sure I'll hear all about it today at work. |

I didn't even know she skated till it was all over facebook this morning. I did watch the three performances though. Only thing I really know about figure skating is that if you stumble or fall, you usually don't beat skaters that didn't stumble or fall unless your routine had some crazy shit. |

Im just bummed Lipnitskaia didnt medal. She came out flat and uninspired. A mistake of youth. She spent her best on the Team Skate.

This pretty much sums up my knowledge of the sport as well. And I wasn't really cheering for or against anyone in particular, I just wanted to see it judged fairly. Was it? I have no idea. |

I don't know much about skating either, but the NY Times didn't seem to think the scoring was totally out there, for whatever that's worth:

One of the judges is married to an official of the Russian figure skating federation, so I'm guessing it probably didn't take much wine or dine to get her vote. |

Just another reason not to have purely judged events at the Olympics. There's always going to be room for some human error, but a video-playback-aided referee watching for rules violations and a panel of judges simply outright deciding who wins are a world apart in terms of potential corruption. |
