I believe the USA/Canada match begins at 2 AM.
Last week I went out to a bar to watch the US/Russia game and it was absolutely terrible....I can only imagine the s*itshow the US/Canada match will be like. |
What do you mean by "absolutely terrible"? Please describe. |
Every time USA scored all the Canadians in the bar started booing really loudly and then all the Americans started chanting "USA USA USA" really loudly and then every time Russia scored all the Canadians started shouting and thumping their beer glasses on their tables and cheering so in turn the USA fans started yelling at them.
Meanwhile all the British, NZ, South Africans just looked around uneasily and the Koreans just kind of glared. I'm all for cheering and having a good time but this was just obnoxious. There was more to it but that was the most annoying part. |
If you don't want to hear people being loud as shit, don't go to a bar and watch the Olympics. |
Thanks for the advice! |

Wrong. There's no reason why people have to be loud and obnoxious at a bar. And if they can't watch a sports game at a bar without acting like immature louts then there's a problem. We are all adults holding university degrees. If the customers were behaving the way the other poster reported, well that's just sad. It's a friggin' game for goodness sake. Support your team, cheer their goals, but don't become an obnoxious jerk. If you condone such behavior then I'm afraid that says volumes about your own maturity level. |

You're talking about maturity? The guy who made a thread to gloat about Kim Yuna not winning a gold? Seriously? |

This. Look I'm a big sports fan myself and I've watched countless sporting events in person and in bars around the world. I don't mind people getting a bit rowdy and cheering for their team, that's fine. I just think it's stupid when you've got dozens of people in a bar whose team/country isn't even playing....show up just to shout at others who are trying to watch their team play.
I also have no problem for cheering for your team when they are doing well.....but drunkenly standing on tables and screaming USA USA! at the top of your lungs (indoors) can get pretty annoying when it persists for roughly 3 hours.
And I will be taking your advice and will be staying home to watch the USA/Canada match from the comforts of my own apartment this evening haha.

My immaturity hurts noone. Being loud, obnoxious and confrontational in a pub can lead to serious consequences. It's inconsiderate of others who wish to enjoy the sports game without a brawl almost breaking out. Banging their beer mugs on the table, chanting 'USA' 'USA' 'USA', provocatively cheering 'against' another country's team, and being loud as hell in a public place takes immaturity to another level.
And for the record, my dislike for Yuna is not because she's Korean, but because of the manner in which she fired her coach. She deserved a bit of karma. Or is it wrong to feel pleased that someone who behaved so badly, and so tackily, wasn't rewarded with another gold medal? Is it wrong to feel good that Orser, whom she treated so shabbily, won another gold at the Olympics and she didn't? Maybe it is, but my gloating hurts noone. Being a loud obnoxious yob at a bar does. |

Hokie, how can you watch it from home? Is it possible - will any station cover it here? |

From my laptop.....I have a VPN so I'm guessing I can find a stream somewhere online. Wiziwig (sp), FrontRow etc...are usually good bets. Also you can usually go onto Reddit and find the in-game thread and find a few links for online streams.
That's the other thing that kind of stinks regarding sporting events over here. If you really want to watch a particular sporting event you may be forced to watch it in a loud, noisy western bar. |

| I'm not very handy with computer technology stuff. I've never heard of any of those things. (bit of a technophobe). I guess it's a pub for me tonight. |

Here ya go....pretty much just find the sporting event you'd like to watch and click "live" then find a "stream" and watch.
For example: ATP Delray Beach Hit "Live" then on the next page hit "Play now" under NJtvx10 and you come to this. http://nutjob.eu/njtvx10.html
Not all streams work and some lag but you can play around and find one that works.
Oh and a lot of these streams have tons of annoying pop up ads so it's worth downloading "Ad Blocker Plus" as an extension for your browser. It's free.

No problem. I'm most likely staying in tonight to watch it so once some streams are up for the match I'll post them. If I forget send me a PM and I'd be more than happy to post them here.
Wiziwig is just an example of one of these sites, there are many more. |
