What income per year does it take to be in the top 1% of income earners in Korea? How about the 90th and 95th percentiles?
This information is easy to find on Google in English for countries like America and Canada. I haven't been able to find anything in English about Korea and I probably couldnt understand a complicated article like that in Korean. Just wondering if this information is out there on the Korean interwebz. |

Try looking into Lee Kun Hee (이건희) or Chun Doo Hwan (전두환).
Although they might be even richer than the 1%. |

I will not try that because that will not tell me what income level is in the 99th percentile.
Also, you mathematically cannot be above the top 1% because that would require more than 100%. If they were in the top 0.1% they are not higher than the top 1%, only a portion of the top 1%, so they would still be included in the category "the top 1%". |

No the top 0.1% is a thing, maybe not in a strictly mathematical sense, but as a concept the top 0.1% has been been frequently referred to as a group.
In any case it is not hard to find the estimated wealth of people like 이건희. He is by far the richest, nearly double that of 정몽구, with a fortune of over 12Bn dollars. There are nearly two dozen people with fortunes over a billion that I could find.
The truth is that even within the ranks of the rich the variation is huge. Some guy with a household income of a million dollars is to the average joe fantastically wealthy. However, he is just as much of an insect to the guy with a household income of multiple millions.
When you get to the likes of 이건희 what does 1% tell you exactly? In truth, not an awful lot. |

Do you understand that you could just type into google 'The top 1% in Korea' and get the following Chosun Ilbo article in english.
http://english.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2012/04/25/2012042501165.html
Google also showed up two articles from the 한겨레 in English.
http://www.hani.co.kr/arti/english_edition/e_national/550481.html
http://www.hani.co.kr/arti/english_edition/e_business/531282.html
My apologies for confusing your thread with an opportunity to discuss the top 1% in Korea and not just a request to do a simple Google search on your behalf. |

Mathematically speaking:
Since: 99.9% > 99%
Therefore: the top .1 % is above the 1%.
If you don't like the term 'above', use the term 'on top of'.
Logically your argument makes as much sense as saying you can't be richer than anyone because you are someone. |

Is that figure in the article individual or household?
And yeah, what I specifically asked for in my OP was what I was interested in.

This doesn't make sense to me since it is much higher than Canada's top 1% in household income earners.
Thank you for useful information though.
Edit: Oh I see what you mean. The numbers are averages between people who make millions and people who make a hundred thousand. Yeah I'm really interested in the household starting point. |

You lied in your OP and you obviously hadn't even tried to search for the information.
The links I posted and the hani link reposted by almosthome were easy to find.
Korea like many OECD countries has a national agency dedicated to collating statistics. Below is the link for Statistics Korea, try actually searching this time.

That seems pretty low compared to other countries. Incomes would much higher starting in the millions or billions of dollars. |
