Actually I'd like to hear more about her skills. I'll provide the beverage. 
Edit: Actually, I just viewed the video again. Think I'll be keeping my beverage where it is.  That chick puts the 'soft' in soft drink. Sorry, did I say soft drink? I meant KO-LAH. KO-LAH.
At least I learned a 'Korean word today. Anyone know of any estimation of how many English words Koreans use (and abuse). When I first learned to read hangeul I was astonished by how many English(y) words I was reading. I'd guess they use at least 500 English words. Anyone know of any reliable estimation? |

Probably best to keep the comments related to her skills of pronunciation.
That is a pretty glaring mistake...whether it was intentional or not?
Obviously she has no problem with the long 'O' in Cola. Why Coke?
The internet is a cruel teacher at times.

No offense Scorpion, but sure thing this will get back to her, and while the pronunciation jab could be constructive, the insults are a bit too much...yes?(it is funny sure...but too far knowing how it will get back to her.)

No idea. But from living here and learning it I would have guessed it was closer to 5000. Especially technical terms. |

I think you can relax. It's probably safe to assume that the lady in question doesn't hang out on Daves. Even if she does, she'll probably be the first to admit the laughable nature of her error. It's not as if she mispronounced flower as 'flowah' in front of the class. And when they phase out foreign ESL teachers this kind of mistake will be even more commonplace. |

| Last month my Friday co-teacher reminded me that the spring semester would be starting on May 3rd. Yeah, right. . And we are being phased out because we are no good at teaching. Obviously I can't be as exciting to teenagers as a K-POP boyband. |

Koreans favour a combination of the grammar translation and audio-lingual teaching methodologies for English. They have been discredited as ineffective and scorned upon for more or less the last forty years, but I think the message just didn't trickle down to Korea's Ministry of Education.
Take a look at any of the execrable language learning materials available at Kyobo and you'll see the same dreary Listen/Repeat drills and sentence transformation exercises in the course-books. While repeating an utterance modelled by a native speaker over and over again parrot fashion may help a learner acquire some discrete phonemes, it won't do anything else useful.
In Korea, the collocation 'imaginative approach' is impossible where language learning is concerned. So is the concept of a 'holistic' approach. Koreans naiively continue--and will continue--to believe that the English language is like a jigsaw puzzle they can conveniently assemble piece by polished piece. |
