I have a Canadian drivers licence and I am planning to exchange it for a Korean licence thks week. I watched a video blog on youtube that very clearly explained what I have to do but I do have one concern. I am slightly red-green colorblind. This has never effected my ability to drive safely and of course my color vision is good enough to tell red from green (certain shades can confuse my eyes) however the video blog said they give the Ishihara color plate test which I am unable to pass. Thats the test with the multicolored dots where you see a number in the center.

I know many men are slightly color defiecient so can anyone tell me if this will be a problem? In Canada when I had trouble with that same test they just made me look at some road sign images through a pair of goggles and tell them what color I saw which was no problem.

When I did the eye test there was no colour element. They asked on the form if you are colour blind, which I'm not. Beyond that, there was no coloured spots etc.

The eye test was just the same as I had at home, cover one eye, the lady pointed to about ten different things.

Where will you be getting your license? Becuase having talked to a few people it seems each office has a different process. Sometimes, radically different.

I've done a motorcycle test. I did the Ishihara test and the cover one eye test (and that chart was in Korean). This was done in a hospital in Gyunggi-do. However, because I live on the border the nearest registry was in Gangwon-do. So I have a Gangwondo licence even though I live in Gyunggi-do. Make sense?

I exchanged my license I think in '07 and had the ishiwhatever as part of the test. That was in Busan. Not sure what protocal they follow these days. Interesting that you mention partially colour blind as my brother-in-law isnt allowed to drive here due to colourblindness. Wonder if he can in Canada?

I’m also slightly red-green colorblind. Can distinguish the two colors no problem but fail to see the numbers in that booklet with colored dots.
I was able to get a license back home because it is not a disqualifying reason for a regular license. However I could not get a professional license (bus, truck etc driver)
When I exchanged my license here in Korea they did not test for color vision. Even if they did I assume it wouldn’t be a problem just like back home.
It was at the one near Samsung Stn. in Gangnam. The place was so busy there was a long line at the eye test. There was no time to check anything other than read a few numbers and whatnot from the chart and move on to the squatting part.

I'm extremely color-blind and yet there was no issue with that when I got my Korea driver's license. Yes, the nurse checked for my color-vision acuity; and, yes, the doctor on site informed her that failing the color-vision test isn't a bar. Of course, that leads to the question of why they even administer that test in the first place.

The physical agility test is a squat test.
