Hey guys, I'm new to the board and wanted to see if anyone could help me out with my visa issue. I am 36 years old, of Korea descent and was born in the US. I didn't renounced my Korea citizenship before I turned 18 years old. Both of my parents are US citizens and gave up their Korean citizenship over 30 years ago.
I'm not worried about military service because I'm exempt from it due to my age. However, I called the NYC Korean consulate and told them about my situation. The woman said that I did not qualify for the F-4 Visa because of my dual citizenship and I can't get the E-2 visa either. Basically, she said that I would have to wait until I was 37 years old to get either visa.
Is this true? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

If you are a Korean citizen, then what is your problem exactly? |

Thanks for the response Rock. My issue is that I'm a US citizen and I've never set foot in Korea and because I didn't renouncement my Korean citizenship before I turned 18 years old, I'm barred from getting an E-2 and F-4 visa until next year. At least that was the NYC Korean consulate said. Any clarification would be helpful. |

...or maybe she thought you'd be drafted to the army and she was playing it safe. Thirty six western age is Thirty Seven Korean age.. You might have thought to have asked her why, rather than having said "Ok", hanging up, and then asking us on here. |

I tried to get more information over the phone but unfortunately the woman at the consulate was not very helpful. I'll probably stop by there in person and see if I can get more detailed information regarding my situation. |
