Was wondering if anyone could fill me in with the latest requirements for the f6 marriage visa?

I heard that there is a financial requirement for the Korea spouse to fulfill. Since we are planning on living with his parents for the first 6 months would we be able to do it on their income?

Also as we will be getting married while I am in Korea on a tourist visa, when the time comes to getting the f6 would I have to leave the country and go a Korean embassy there to obtain it? Anyone know how long this would take roughly?

Check out the immigration website at HiKorea.go.kr (sorry no linking in posts), and you can look it up for yourself. Cool

I was on a tourist visa when applying for my F-6. I didn’t need to leave the country.

Doesn’t your husband to be have a job? If he does that’s enough.
I don’t think immigration would accept the parents’ income but I could be wrong.
Borrow some money from them or others (at least 30mil) get a bank statement about it and return it after you applied for your visa.

He finished school last year and has had a job the last 4 months or so. Not sure if that amount of time would suffice as I read somewhere that they wanted to see income for the last year.

And yes 6 months is a long time and I'm a bit scared lol but I am thinking of it as a time of learning. I will use the time to learn how to cook up a few Korean dishes etc

Thanks for all of your replies.

Immigration can use other sources of income for the verification, i.e. a rental contract for an apartment, a work contract through the employer, along with the length of employment document from the employer. There are several ways to satisfy the immigration people when applying for your family visa. They do not simply expect people to have a certain amount of money in the bank in order to meet the qualifications. The Korean spouse becomes the sponsor for the visa, so they want to make sure there is family financial ability before issuing the visa. That is what I know from the process way back in the day when I applied for my family visa. Much has changed over the past 9 years, but it is not that difficult to go through, unless you happen to get the wrong counter person taking your application. Good luck!

Was only on a Tourist Visa and I HAD to leave the country (this was back in Feb 2013). I went to Osaka and the application process took 3 days (but they said it could take 5).
I was only required to prove that my wife was employed (no financial requirement).
Call or visit immigration, and also call the embassy in Osaka, things change on a regular basis so over a year on my experience may differ from people doing it now.
Good luck.

It really all comes down to which official you get. My wife had to show that she had a lot of money in the bank. We just had her mom transfer some money for a day and printed out the statement. Your husband has to prove that he has good English speaking skills or you will have to show your Korean ability these days.

Back than my wife just got a job (we just came back to Korea) and we applied for my visa a week later and it was fine.

However things could have changed since as modernseoul’s experience shows. I got my visa in 2009.
