He prefers Korean tenants. By the gods! Clearly he has never had Koreans as neighbors. Clearly has never lived in one of his buildings peopled by this 'model minority'.

First, those are Americans who are ethnic Koreans. Unless you are saying that they aren't Americans and are instead Koreans.

Second, are you basing this off of your extensive experience with the Korean-American community?

I don't see what the big deal is about his comments. I understand it's controversial, but he's basically expecting his girlfriend to act the same way we have to act in Korea. There are cultural pressures and expectations, and some people respond differently to them.

Sterling said that he didn't care if she brought Magic Johnson and other black guys over or even has sex with him. He was okay with that. But he didn't want her to be broadcasting everything she does on Instagram or for her to be bringing him or other black guys to games because he was getting phone calls about it and was being harassed about it by others.

It's similar to how our bosses probably don't care what we do in private, but if they start getting phone calls from parents and other people complaining about seeing us hanging out in the neighborhood with too many Korean women, they're probably going to get frustrated and may say something to us about it. In fact, I've seen posts on here where bosses have made such remarks to foreign teachers.

If we hang out and chat with whites in front of the hagwon all the time, I don't think our bosses would care. If we hang out all of the time with bearded brown guys in mandresses in front of the hagwon and parents start asking questions to the boss, our bosses are probably going to get frustrated and may ask us to be more low key, due to the cultural pressures being put on them.

Ruben Patterson was arrested for beating his wife and was convicted of attempting to rape his kid's nanny, and was allowed to continue to play his NBA career as a registered sex offender. Those weren't his only crimes during his NBA career either. And he hasn't been the only criminal allowed to continue his NBA career. But if you're an old white geezer and make a perceived racist comment to your girlfriend during a heated argument in private, you're banned for life and fined $5,000,000. The most absurd part about it is how Sterling probably wouldn't have been in this much trouble with the NBA if he had beat her up and tried to rape her. Physical violence and sexual violence are relatively culturally acceptable, but verbally offending someone is much, much worse. Rolling Eyes

The bold 100%. Nobody should be surprised by Sterling's actions.

Racist or not, how can someone that rich be so obtuse about public relations?

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/14/sports/basketball/on-a-night-when-the-nets-lose-the-nba-wins.html

"Sterling has made a lot of money in his octogenarian life and apparently spent none of it on social enlightenment or a good public-relations firm. In his first interview since his comments to Stiviano earned him a lifetime ban from Silver, Sterling went on the air with CNN’s Anderson Cooper and disparaged Johnson for being H.I.V. positive and asked, “What does he do for black people?”"

...........Sterling is also a fine one to talk about sexual comportment, given his lifestyle, including hair-raising court testimony he has given over past dalliances. His failure to understand how beloved Johnson is, most notably in Los Angeles, is more evidence of his luxurious plantation mentality."

Has anyone seen his apartments. The majority are in Beverly Hills or adjacent. The rents are very high for LA. You're not getting a gangbanger on welfare. The tenants all have to submit an application with job and income as well as a credit report run. You must be solidly middle class to rent in his apartments. Sterling is just doesn't like Blacks and/or surrendering to stereotypes and prejudices and some of us no here are making excuses for him.
Many of us work alongside and live with black or other non white teachers here in Korea. I have. Same as everyone else. probably because all of us have a few factors in common: college educated, no felonies, healthy. Just maybe...maybe..Sterling is overreaching on not having certain people there. Middle class values are middle class values. Its the same the world over.
Some of you are scary..really scary.

His wider views and general shittiness aside, I wonder if Sterling's particular bone with Magic Johnson is not somehow linked to Johnson's close relationship with Jerry Buss, (the late) longtime owner of the Lakers.

Buss and Sterling knew each other before they were franchise owners, had some financial dealings, and while Buss immediately saw substantial successful with the Lakers, Sterling's Clippers struggled for years (decades). I can imagine Sterling having a long seated resentment of Buss' success, as well as Johnson's role in it, and after Buss passing that being wholly focused on Johnson.

Regarding private vs. public statements: When he goes public he comes across as even more unpleasant.

The guy said his girl could bang blacks but he was tired of his buddies bugging him about it and didn't want her to advertise it. Therefore: Two Minutes of Hate. We do not belong to a serious culture.
