This is said to be the biggest El Nino year since 1997. I saw a news report that SE Asia will have much of it's rainy weather for summer blow out into the Pacific and it will be drier and hotter for them. Not sure what it means for Korea, though. Though on a selfish note, I'd like dryer (less humid) and less rainy weather this summer. But, like I said, not sure what it will mean this summer for us in Korea.

Taiwan is currently getting hammered with their rainy season, so I'm sure it will be here in no time. |

It'll hit Jeju first. I'll let you know when it gets here. |

I thought in El Nino years North America gets mild winters, but they just had the whole polar vortex episode. Is it the next winter that will be mild, or has everything just gone Pete Tong? |

I hope the big Bad Wolf visits you this year. I think it's been awhile since you've seen him. |

I vaguely remember the 1997-98 El Nino Season in Canada. Being more North and near the Atlantic Ocean, it's effects weren't felt until later in the year. It resulted in a warmer winter and spring, which basically meant more snow as through November and December, it's often too cold to snow and the ground remains bare until around Christmas. We got snow in late October and it stayed till April. Yick! Anyhew, Korea is more south and closer to the Pacific, so I had hoped there would be some effect. Anyone who lived here in 1997-98 who can remember if the weather was unusual? |

That is true. BTW it has been spilling down rain all day here in Seogwipo and the wind has been pretty strong. I hear from friends that its also raining in Busan.
It won't be long before Seoul gets it too. |
